Porter Night?

I know I'm behind with the tasting notes, but B's posting in the H&G made me realise that I have a few porters and stouts in the fridge waiting for tasting. Anyone up for, not a full beerfest, but a gentle evening of porter sampling? It won't be an official 'fest because I definitely don't have time for the write-ups, but it might give us some ideas for the future.

Porters?

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes smiley - drool

I love you and I want to have your babies smiley - bigeyes There are currently three bottles of Fuller's London Porter in my fridge. Only problem is, most of the porters I'll be tasting aren't to be had in the UK, although I believe you found a Sierra Nevada beer didn't you? Their porter is one of the best in the world http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/279

Not far behind this one http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/198

Any time you want to visit Austin I'll stand you a pint at the Ginger Man smiley - cheers

I just heard from one of our vendors that this is now to be had in Texas http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/147/90

I went to the Teignworthy brewery with my brother before he moved away again, and they have an awesome selection of ales. I think I could get anything there, in fact, and I've never been to a place where they stock so many obscure beers. One I picked up was the Sierra Nevada, and I thought of you as I bought it.

I can go there with only a short diversion again on Wednesday on my way home from camp, so if you let me know exactly what you can get hold of I'll do my best to get hold of them. UK porters would be more likely, of course, but I was astonished at their range of American brews as well.

I'll talk to Lainey about the baby idea. I don't think she'll mind too much.

Your place or mine smiley - winkeye

Breckenridge Vanilla Porter is one to look out for. Nethergate Old Growler is one you should be able to find, what with it being British an' all. Anchor Porter is a good. Sam Adams make a halfway decent porter that you might be able to find. And you really have to pay a visit around October/Novemeber to sample this http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/458/14660 We have it on tap every year. In fact it's my intention to have a rotating Real Ale seasonal tap at the Drafthouse. Their spring seasonal this year was exceptionally good http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/458/41752 They call it an American Strong Ale but it's actually a Sottish Wee Heavy or 160/- ale.

I'm generally in favour of full-on Beerfests, as you know.

Plus, I'm not sure I've got a reliable outlet for Porters near me. And I'm fat enough as it is.

But I'll give it a go if you post a list.

B

Ok, I have the following - I've managed to avoid drinking any since I mooted the idea:

Sierra Nevada
Ringwood
Bath Ales Dark Hare
O'Hanlon's Port Stout
Bristol Breweries Milk Stout
RCH Old Slug

I'll see what I can find of Gosho's as well. I'll let you know a day/time as soon as I can, but at the moment my rota only goes as far as Thursday.

I'm glad I checked them tonight, incidentally. I found two bottles of OP that I didn't know I had, so I'm not out of beer after all smiley - biggrin
