Entry: Pickles - A2979840
Author: Edward the Bonobo - crunchy, in a chewy sort of way. - U803114
A long article about the joy of pickles - written with a combination of pretended erudition and failed humour.

This is an absolutely cracking entry, well written. Your first?
On an initial light-to-medium scan through I can't see any major problems. This should sail through PR and into the Edited Guide, and the sooner the better say I.
I tend to opt for a good Indian lime pickle myself. Which reminds me...haven't I got an Entry about curries dossing around somewhere in PR?

Oooh. One thing I didn't mention (and I feel a bit guilty for doing so, because I'm a bit of a sinner myself) - if you've a minute you could search the EG for any keywords, and add links to those entries in your text. I noticed you haven't got any links in so far.

Good job, Edward!!!
One point:
If you notice on the side of your article... you have a list of referenced sites... within the article. I believe you should probably title them, after all "Skeptic's Annotated Bible" would probably sound better than "here".
You can do this with:
...your text...
If you are linking to an h2g2 site than:
your text
IT will automatically take care of the titling for you....
Hope it goes swiftly through PR and off to attain new heights.!!!!

Hi Edward!
I've had a read through this and it is excellent. I haven't checked it for typos yet - there are quite a few, but I'm not going to list them now. I might do later on.
A few problems I have spotted:
You mention in two places that pickling is done by the lactic acid produced by fermentation. as if that was the only way of pickling. Elsewhere you say that there are two different ways of pickling, one of which is the lactic acid method. This should be cleared up.
"In 850, Aristotle praised ..."
Aristotle lived from 384 to 322 BC.
"the Antonine wall" - could you provide a footnote letting us know where this - even which country.
You've listed Pickled Onions twice in the section on Acid-based pickles.
NaOH and KOH: you should probably give their full names.
"one can always wash the salt off" - this is something you can't do when salt has been used in the pickling process.

Ta all. I'll try and do some stuff later. Any suggestions as to cross-linking in h2g2? Any entries in particular?
Sorry - I'm shamefully poor at spotting my own typos. I'll maybe try C&P'ing it back into Word.

I don't mind checking it for typos later, but it is better to get the content right first. Remind me if I don't.

Merci mes amis
I've made some corrections etc. Do I win any prizes for being the most x-refd or footnoted entry in the guide?

Wow 24 footnotes....
Aaahhhh... But I have 29 in an article.....
but then mine are source listings.... yours is actual footnotes....
now you are going to make me think about adding more footnotes
I think U206300(farlander) has a habit with footnotes.... he might have more...

Here's what the h2g2 Style Guide says about footnotes:
"Using footnotes is, however, a slightly thorny issue because pertinent quips and canny explanations get lost way down at the bottom of an entry. That means that you end up scrolling up and down the page to read them, putting you in terrible danger of losing your place. Perhaps it's best if you don't use them too often. Instead try and work the text of a footnote into the main text (perhaps in brackets) then it will enhance the text and it reduces annoying scrolling scenarios."

Bah, Guidelines... I find footnotes a lovely place for digressions.

Absolutely! I'd rather not have the entry used that fold in the footnotes! I feel they give a satirical air of pseudo-academia.

Can anyone explain why the reference to Acidity and Basicity doesn't show up under 'Referenced Guide Entries'?

And if you want to break a record for footnoting, you've already beaten my best effort, to which - as Sub-editor - I added all the footnotes and the bad joke at the end. A882911

Well done on adding lots of links, but you can always add more. When I remember to add links at all, I generally go through the entry and write down every major noun and verb, then search for these in h2g2. I'm sure if you did this you could find at least 50 more links.
