Hear hear! I think they're making a movie of the Guide, but it will be nothing without the true voice of "The Book".

I too prefer the radio series, but then I heard it the first time round. I like the books because they are portable (I regretfully have to exclude "mostly harmless" from my list of favourites) and they would be my first choice of ebook if I had a reader.
The sad loss of Peter Jones has also driven me back to the book of the radio scripts. I just have to read it to hear his voice again.

I hear they're getting Hugh Laurie to play Arthur Dent in the new movie.

I'm not realy familiar with Hugh Laurie's acting, except in Black Adder and a few building society adverts. I think I would even prefer Hugh Grant. I always saw Arthur Dent as an intelligent, but rather reserved Englishman and I fancy that Hugh Laurie is better at bewildered surprise than stoical puzzlement.

Time moves on however, as does the audience. Perhaps it is time to accept a little change, albeit for commercial reasons in this case. I only hope that the special effects can make up for any deficiencies in the cast. Although the TV series was woeful in some respects (ZB's other head and Marvin) it was excellent in others, including the hand animated book excerpts.

Whatever the result at least some of Douglas' madness will seep through to another generation. So far I've heard the radio series, read the books (and the scripts), seen the stage show and the TV series, worn the T-shirt and own the records. Another medium can't be all bad.

Wowee! Yes, the more people who know about the Guide, the better. I have read (some of) the books, and heard the (absolutely brilliant) radio play!
