I've built a few things out of recycled lumber.
I've even remanufactured a couple things for another purpose.
I also have a vast collection of old bolts and screws, but not so many nails. I've had bad experiences trying to reuse 16p nails in the past.

I used to work in hardware stores.

Hi TR, thanks for thatsmiley - ok I would love to work in an old fashioned hard ware shop, I used to spend hours in one we had in my home town, before it was closed down. Yea! there is a real sense of satisfaction when you finish something you have built out of recycled materialssmiley - cool

I still have some 17th century nails, I reclaimed from the flooring of my old house I used to have before I got divorced (and lost itsmiley - erm)

I never throw anything out, mind you my Dad was the same and I inherited all his collection as well. Thanks for the post, it was interesting for me to readsmiley - ok

it comes to mind that i have a pile of used lumber i've been dragging around for a few years. I got tired of moving it to shake the bugs out and mow the weeds around it so last year I make a pyramid out of it, as I have a gradual set of lengths.
The weeds haven't grown under it and with the spaces between the boards, the wet mold hasn't returned either. The cats have been using it for climbing and clawing.

I'm going to have to go through it and figure out which are treated so I can use the untreated lumber for a bunk bed project I've been thinking about for years. I've always wanted the top bunk to myself since I was at Ft. Benning.
