All those who give vaguely the correct answer will have their name printed in the next published H2IQ. If you arrived here without knowing the question it can be found by clicking the above 'H2IQ Revisited' link.

What if it was a black hole though?

Hmmm...no I think it's petrol. That'll turn the bucket into a lighter when you set fire to it.

Ah but Black holes aren't viable to the naked eye something to do with the background colour.

I think it's the hole in the end of a straw so that you can suck the contents out - especially if the bucket is full of smiley - alesmiley - winkeye

Well for this one I went to the local bio-chem labs to try and figure it out. After doing various experiments I soon realised that I had no idea what I was doing. I am now stuck in de-con because of all the bio-toxins that I accidently exposed myself to. smiley - erm

Well if you are going to be a flasher to bi-toxins GodBen you have only yourself to blame. smiley - winkeye

Hmm, I thought sunlight was a good answer, but I must concur with the 'hole' theory.

It's got to be a hole, but does it have to be a whole hole?

How about a negative ton of helium gas?
You can't see it, and if you can trap it in the bucket then the bucket will rise up off the scale and have no weight at all!

I like the hole answer, too. But is that the whole answer?

I have some problems with just 'a hole', as a hole must have some thickness, and will be filled with air, which has weight, unless you put the whole bucket in vacuum.
A bucket full of vacuum might be an alternative, but you cannot see a vacuum, only feel it because your hand would start bubbling.

Maybe the old song was right;
"There 's a hole in the bucket, dear Lisa, dear Lisa..."

I hope you don't mean your wife has a bucket...
