I don´t know. Just stick to the original, that´s the thing. I evan tried In 80 Days around the world in French (and I´m realy not good at it )
The interesting thing about the new translation of books is, that you always have the problem, that the language which you translate into has changed over the years since the original book may have been published. So you don´t get a good translation anyway, just a translation, and there have to be flaws in it, perticular, when the text isn´t scientific and just facts, sort of.

Yes - Aurora - it must have been the Harry Potter books, because kids really are ruthless critics, and look at the way the books are such a success in the German. My 12 year old has read them in both languages several times each.

Taling about reading things in the original - I always put off reading Tolkien because I thought he was Russian and I was determined to learn Russian to be able to read the original. Until I found out he was English! I told someone else this and they thought it was very funny - and suggested that perhaps the original had been in runes!

Cheers, hope you´ve made good use of the weather out there, too! It was so GORGIOUS! I spent quite some time outside this evening, just lying in the sun and ...sleeping! So wonderful...

you are not the only one who though Tolkien was russian ... but there is a Russian who wrote something similar. I can't remember the name for I didn't read it, but it was well known in East Germany ...

In this weather all I can do is stay in, draw all the blinds and rush to the shower every half hour, the rest of the time sleeping or moaning on the bed (alone!) I hate it.

No - I am quite serious. I love September when life starts again and I can creep out into the open.

Oh, TC, I do pitty you. I don´t know how you can make it through weather like this. We spent the morning on a fleamarket, selling off our gunk, and well, we were cooked through quite lovely. I just enjoyed sitting and saying: You can have that for 50 Pf all the time. Wonderful.
So I hope you have a good working fan, and the cooler on your PC works good.

Whoops - I thought that was my post that was removed. I was chatting in German with yelbakk and forgot to put my English brain in before posting on H2G2. (I saw that a couple of you were online so I thought I'd invite you.) However. It wasn't me, because, funnily enough, my posting is still there - naked and uncovered and unadulterated German text!
So - who wrote posting 591?
