Hi TC,

I don't think we _really_ were discussing who was "guilty" and who has to appologise to whom... . And when you get right down to it: it doesn't matter how the whole thing got started - just how you can stop it. Get on with life as you called it so fittingly!!

Believe me: I'm toying with the idea to call my friend and settle it all. But I'm not sure if I want to. You're absolutely right that I have to decide if there is still a chance for our friendship (and if I still want it!) or if it would be better to just let it die here and now... .
Moreover I have to admit (yep! I'm being egocentric here!!) I'm not sure I want to swallow my pride. That sounds selfish and it is selfish but it's true... .

All in all: I don't know. I'll just wait what happens (is there an English equivalent for "Ich werde es auf mich zukommen lassen"?) Maybe next week I'm just in the mood to try again and settle it all, maybe she will be the one to contact me. Maybe it won't happen at all... .
As of today I can't say.

OK, enough of the gloom already! smiley - winkeye
I think (as it is Sunday morning) I'll rather have smiley - bubbly than smiley - stiffdrink at the moment. And tonight maybe a nice bottle of wine... . I think I still have a nice Scheurebe - it's been some time since our last bottle of white wine!! Would you like some too???

Thank you. I'm glad I could contribute. Aurora. How about (just to finish the subejct off) NOT swallowing your pride as such, but explaining in particular why you were hurt.

I can sympathise exactly with the feeling you must have had there, as I hate it when my husband starts cleaning the kitchen when he's just been complaining he's got so much else to do. Why doesn't he leave the kitchen to me, then? Does he think I'm incapable or too stupid to do it or what? So many other things like that annoy me - often at work, you are asked to do something, and then find out that someone else has been asked to do it, too, or has done it, or the person who asked you to do it has done it themselves. It is not only frustrating, it is humiliating, belittling and insulting when this happens.

But I am afraid I find it difficult to say so to the people involved, the people who cause this frustration and shatter my self-confidence like that. It's all right for me to give advice - but don't worry if you can't carry it out - I certainly would have trouble owning up to having been humiliated or annoyed, too. It all depends on the kind of people you and your girlfriend are, Aurora, and the sort of relationship you had to date.

Losing a friend over a thing like this is a very big decision to make. You have to live with yourself afterwards, and later on it might take on a different perspective, and you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

One way of translating "ich lass es auf mich zukommen" would be to say, "I'll have to wait and see what happens" but the German version is a more active thing, at least, I picture someone actively fielding events that happen to them, in order to turn them to use to master the situation, whereas the English version seems very passive, not necessarily implying that you will then go on to do something with whatever happens. (Sorry - I don't think there's any phrase or word I couldn't write half a page on if I start thinking about it)

That's better!

What do you think of this weather, then?

How's things, Floh ? Unfortunately we didn't watch you on TV on 28th April - we were too busy partying at Wonko's.

Having now been to three meet-ups, I must say that you really do have a good time with the H2G2 lot. We had a lovely time when I was in London last week - Phil, Munchkin, Potholer, Nikki-D, Manolan ... you may remember some of the names from the Yahoo thread, otherwise they are all in British English. The barmaid was a German girl from somewhere in the North (can't remember exactly what she said now) so we had a little chat. It seems easy to get a job, but she was working 48 hours for not very much money. The advantages were that she also lived in the pub and was bang in the middle of London.

Talking to Nikki-D, who has decided to continue life as a woman, having started it as a man, was also very interesting. It put a whole new viewpoint on being a woman. I mean, to think that someone would choose to be a woman. It got me thinking what women do that men don't and all functions we carry out in society, apart from child-bearing. I'm still not sure she realises what she has let herself in for, but wish her all the best. She is a lovely person.

Hi TC, Aurorasmiley - smiley

Heard, the meet-up was very nice, TC. Do you intend to come to the big meet-up in July, in London? I'm thinking seriously about it. The only thing is - if my boss also think it's a great idea and will give me some day off smiley - biggrin

I don't think I'll be going in July - it was really wonderful with the small group last week, but more time off might be difficult.

If you want me to, I'll try to explain the whole story but this will take some time - it'll be a LONG post... .
