"he still top Hampshire's all time batting averages" - tops
"because their grounds, The Dell, were located conveniently close to his home" - ground
"He would also have played for England at rugby were it nor for injuries at the crucial time." - Which crucial time would that be?

Other than that, it looks pretty good. Could do with mentioning his descendant - Steven, as he also suffers from certain mental problems.

Changes done. The "critical time" came from the original author so I've reworded it now.

And aside from Stephen Fry's throwaway comment on QI I couldn't find any proof that they're actually related.

McKay The Disorganised

Stephen has regularly referred to his famous predecessor.

I only spotted one missing word "would not a long-term solution to their problems" should either be "was not" or "would not provide"

Incredibly he was released by Surrey as a young man, a decision that they were sure to regret over the next 20 years.

Strictly speaking as Fry only equalled the record, he didn't hold it. There is no prize for equalling a record, only for breaking one. American Charles Reber, was therefore still the LJ record holder until 1894, when Irishman John Mooney captured it with a jump of 7.21 metres.

Six consecutive first-class centuries isn't unprecedented (unless you mean that it had never before happened when Fry did it).

Two men have done it since, Don Bradman and Mike Proctor.

Points taken. Anything else?

Do we have a consensus on if Stephen Fry is related to CB Fry?

Your title should be:

CB Fry - Sportsman (that's house-style)

Sorry, your title won't survive as is, so you might as well change it smiley - smiley

Also I just noticed:
After his retirement from the game he was once again invited to captain England, but declined pointing out that appointing a 49 year to captain the team would not provide a long-term solution to their problems.

Would you delete the double-quotes around your opening quote, and change the double-quotes around "grand old man of sport" at the end to single-quotes: 'grand old man of sport'

Thanks smiley - smiley

In fact the Paxman quote should be:

Here surely, is an English Hero

This is just something I saw on QI ages ago, but Fry's party trick was to do a backwards somersault onto a mantlepiece from a standing position! That's worthy of a mention.

I love this. There are lots of small errors in the punctuation and grammar, but if a Scout wanted to recommend it I would be happy to Sub them out.

Well done; a fantastic rescue.
