I did'nt know All that much about Robert E Lee. Question. What does the "E" stand for. And South Carolina Succeeded from the Union over Fort Sumter which was own by South Carolina. The US Government Was to take over the Fort despite South Carolina,s objections. So South Carolina succeeded. The Union disregarded the Constitution. States right's as opposed to the right's of the Federal Government. Today to inforce the rule of the Government. They will stop federal funds to the state who dares to not comply with the interest of the Government. That was a well researched entry. smiley - fullmoon

You're incorrect smiley - smiley
South Carolina seceded over slavery, sectional differences and tariffs. Then Fort Sumter happened, because the North didn't want to give it up even though South Carolina seceded.

I'm not sure what the E stands for, though. smiley - erm

Well according to history. slavery was'nt an issue until the war was almost over. Then again history is wrote by the victors. Also it has been said History is a compilation of lies agreed upon. So where do you get the information on the reason for South Carolina to succeed. My info came from a Dr. Who's Family has been in the state of SC from before the War of Independance. Now I know his thought's could be coloured by that fact.

Slavery was the root of the issue. I don't have the energy right now to go into a long explanation on how slavery was the root of all the many causes of the Civil War.

I can't give you any specific sources, because in the process of researching 10 articles on the Civil War and figures in it, I used innumerable sources.

However, I will say that slavery wasn't an "issue" during the war until after the Emancipation Proclamation, but it certainly was a cause. Consider that during WWI, the assassination of the Archduke was the root of the conflict, but the major parties didn't care much about the assassination well into the war.
