Yes, very interesting TRiG smiley - ok

I think there needs to be something clear at the start explaining what sign language is and who it is for.

I'd be interested to know more about how the written forms get used (by who and what for etc).

Are there any EGers around who know how visual examples could be put into the entry?

I think that it could benefit from a video to be honest. Got to be prime AV material!

This is a great start, yes. I'd be happy to make an AV clip to accompany it if you think it would be helpful smiley - ok

Not as much information on the Net as I'd thought, but I've asked my mother to bring back some stuff from the College library (she's studying interpreting).

I do have enough info to fill in all the gaps about Sutton SignWriting, and I don't want to say much about HamNoSys anyway, but I'm struggling with Stokoe notation.

I may be able to put a video together too, perhaps. Could do with two videos, really: one for Stokoe and one for Sutton. There is free software for creating Sutton SignWriting. It's called SignWriter Tiger.

Mammy was rather wonderful, and lugged the Dictionary of British Sign Language back from the college library for me.

I've filled in all the gaps about Stokoe, but perhaps haven't made it clear enough that this is the version of Stokoe notation used in the BSL dictionary, and that there are many other versions. The original Stokoe notation had no ori symbols, including orientation information in handshape and movement.

Should I put in more information on HamNoSys?

The section on Sutton SignWriting says far more about Valerie Sutton than it does about SignWriting, so perhaps I should put more in there. Very difficult without images, though, as it's not an alphabetic method at all.

Perhaps I should also mention that she moved back to the States and learned ASL. For many years, she and a team of others (mainly deaf) published a magazine in ASL in SSW.

Anyway, I've decided that the Entry is fleshed out enough to move to Peer Review, so further reviewing and suggestions should occur at F48874?thread=4794086.
