A Conversation for Talking Point: Is the Digital Age Lowering the Cultural Value of Music?

I think that being able to download music on the internet is a good thing because, frankly, I couldn't afford all the music I have, if I had to buy the whole album in a store. I personally use Itunes most of the time and pay for it, but I don't think it's objectionable to download music for free. Many of my good friends download a moderate amout of music, which I think is fine, but one of my friends has upwards of 10,000 songs (literaly) and has not paid for a single one, which I think I is wrong.

I personally try to use itunes to download music but I have downloaded free music as well (in moderation), I still buy a lot of CDs and vinyl thou and I just transfer odd tracks to my ipod.

I have an MP3 player and it is loaded with tunes from my CD collection I have chosen for their upbeat nature and the fact that when I listen to them I am more likely to get off my backside and do some exercise! I use my MP3 player as I once used a walkman. My music collection is on CD and just the edited funky highlights are on the MP3 player.

I fill up the memory card on my phone with music. I decided not to buy an iPod when I realised that it involved doing the iTunes thing. I used to think that Apple were better than that.

You don't have to buy all your music off iTunes if you have an Ipod. You can upload cds and one of my friends has his computer set up so that anything he downloads off limewire goes into Itunes.

Well we have Mp3 players (one each) and I was lucky in a way, as I down loaded all our music before all the legal side of that was ever mentioned. Mind you, all the music we got is all the oldie stuff from the 50 -60s time, the music we grew up with, we now have all the music that used to be on vinyl and cassette is now on CDs. smiley - cool

Even though we are what they call oldies, we are well into this digital age, with a digital phone, photo viewer, camera, all of which we learned to use, and to be honest its great!smiley - magic Rock Onsmiley - winkeye
