As in Mao Tse-Tung, the Chinese communist dictator. I never did learn all the rules but played for a while at camp, where we called Grand-Maos 'gods' and gave the rules as follows:

I'm God.
Don't f**k with me.
If I give you a card, take it.

Which seemed to cover it.

Okay, that sounds logical.

Except I've always heard that Mao meant frustration. And the versions I've played seem to be friendlier. No offense, though.

True. Although, you could be playing one of the versions I've never tried. I've only played three of the six or seven known versions.

Six known versions? I am fairly surprised. I learned M-o (I'm in a P of O atm) at CTY (Can't Tell You) where it is a very popular game. There is a basic simple version (In traditional and untraditional form (Never play traditional M-o its penalties are more permanent) and then numerous variants. I was taught Divine (which was somewhat known) and Celestial (which has very few people who still know how to play it existing, if any. I met up with a group playing a different version that I never learned and thus can't recall the name too, and we created HitchHiker's M-o which is oodles of fun. I also know people who play Buttered Toast M-o and of course M-ogic (a M-o/Magic cross). Forms of M-o keep evolving and spreading everywhere, and apparantly M-om-o is a very popular game in Germany which most kids there learn.

Well, there's only one thing to do, I suppose. Form the NMPO (National M-o Players Organization)! Start it here right at H2G2!
