Entry: '28 Days' - The Film - A2765234
Author: Niwt - U162817

This was in Writing Workshop for a short time, but I decided to move it here so I'd hopefully get some responses.

As I said in WW, it's really just a plot synopsis because I can't think of much other relevant information. Also I was planning to add some links to other entries but couldn't find their A-numbers on the search function, so I'll have to leave the linking to later.

Comments?

Oh, and this is not a review, it's a...well anyway, I've tried to be objective and impartial and just talk about it rather than about how good it is. smiley - biggrin

I'm not really a Sandra Bullock fan, but I still thought this movie was pretty good. More likely it was because I AM a Steve Buscemi fan, and he was excellent. As always. And you didn't mention him! smiley - sadface

Like your Entry, not sure what else you could add either. smiley - sadface Will think on it.

Oops! You're right, I didn't get around to mentioning him! smiley - doh There's not much to say, but I'll put his name in brackets. I thought he was pretty good in this role, better than usual, and of course he looks like a druggie. smiley - erm

Oddly enough, I saw the title of this entry and though it would be about '28 Days Later' which is clearly a completely different film.

Oh well.

Sho - employed again!

How about a bit more about the other characters?
Also I heard that the paintings done my the baseball guy were done in RL by his actor (Viggo Mortensen)

You also made an interesting point at the beginning about how the opening scenes are shot - perhaps you could track this through the film ... I haven't seen it so I can't comment, but (for eg) I assume she falls for the baseball guy... does it go all soft focus and low lighting?

Yeah, "28 Days Later" is a completely different film. People often get the two confused. This one came first, though.

Thanks for the advice, Sho. I shall watch parts of the film again to see if I can add anything else about filming/camera techniques. There isn't anything special about the way the rest of it was shot, as far as I can tell, but
***SPOILER WARNING***

She doesn't actually fall for the baseball guy, which is a nice change from similar films where obviously she would.

Hi Niwt (again)

Having seen the film, and liked it, I feel qualified to comment.

One thing you have done is started off very organised and writing very clearly, but I felt that you'd lost that somewhere round the middle. For instance, after ruining her sister's wedding, did the sister forgive her or not? And why?

Also, you could mention all the things that they do in the rehab, because some of it would seem to a person like Gwen, very very silly and childish, and she would scoff for the Olympics. But the activities serve a purpose and also provide some good laughs.

My favourite character in the film is the german guy, Gerhardt, I think. When he goes off on one about spoons and forks, it's hilarious smiley - laugh

Other than some structural issues, I do like your style of writing smiley - ok

Thanks for the comments and the compliments.

I thought Gerhardt was also pretty cool - and that Alan guy is a hilarious actor! Somebody suggested I write more about the other characters, so I was planning a small paragraph on Daniel, Oliver, Alan etc.

I'll definitely mention the equine therapy; thanks for reminding me.

I don't want to say whether her sister forgives her or what the ramifications of her actions are, because that would be giving too much away. If you've seen it you'll know there are two or three scenes afterwards featuring the sister where the sister expresses various different ideas and even changes her opinions drastically at one point. So I don't want to ruin the story.

Thanks again,

Niwt smiley - cheers

Hi there!

I think this one could definitely benefit from the use of headers.

I think it might be worth having one section on the plot summary, and then a separate section giving info on who was involved in the film -- actors, writers, directors, etc.

For me, the best bits of the film occur at the end, after she has left the treatment center, and these are completely left out.

Yeah, I suppose it's looking like headers or subheaders would be a good idea, I'll try and find some good places to put them and work the text around that. smiley - ok

Do you mean the ending of the film is left out of the entry? That's because I don't want to give it away! I say in the entry "At the end of the film Gwen has to decide if she is serious about staying sober and make some painful decisions based on that." but as there's only 10 minutes of film after she leaves the centre, during which not much happens except for one major thing which would completely spoil it, I think I won't give any more details about the ending if that's all right.

Thanks for commenting! smiley - biggrin

I think there are details about the ending that won't give anything away. I'd mention that:

She re-encounters a horse, with the whole moving the leg thing

She re-encounters what's-his-name, who's all upset because his plant has died

Wouldn't you say that's a little too much detail? People can watch the film to see that.

To me, those little things at the end do a good job of capturing the *tone* of the film without giving away the ending -- and I think tone is the one place where maybe this entry is a little lacking at the moment. If I were to read this entry before seeing the movie, I think I would expect something rather different than what it actually is. Does that make sense?

Niwt hasn't been around for a few months, but will likely be back again. It might make sense to move this back to the entry in the meantime.
