I seem to do mostly wizards and dragons, or anything to do with gardening. Occasionally I do animals, but they are so annoying to sort the colours. Light brown. light light brown. light blue brown. light brown blue. I normally only do them for loved ones.
What do other people like to do?

I did a whole series of Watership Down rabbits for my daughter, I've done a couple of bits for reserchers here a picture for Craxus, which is quite difficult to discribe and a bib for Rev Jack Russell's daughter Aisling, keyring for Dragantha I have a picture I'm on at the moment which commemorate's D Day, I'm thinking of giving it to the local museum cos Gosport and Portsmouth were at the forfront of the D day sailings, I do little things too, cards, keyrings, etc for friends and family, I have a couple of books of alphhabets whhich are nice for a personal touch

Generally I seem to do castles, magicians, wolves and some wildlife and a few cards and bookmarks for family and friends. At present I’ve got a piece with a couple of dream catchers on the go, but the summer production I’m currently rehearsing for has put rather a block on progress there.
I want to do some more blackwork. I’ve got a 1000 years of fashion sampler sitting in a draw that I want to start, oh and there’s the Camelot cross stitch I want to do. One of my favorites was a couple of knights jousting.

I was sorting through my magazines yesterday and I came across a couple of pictures of Camelot-esque charts one of a lady saying farewell to her Knight and one of a lady stitching by a window, I'd do them but I'm drowning in unfinished projects

I doing samplers and anything botanical. I've done three Dolls' Houses - two in cross-stitch and the other in tapestry. Eventually, each of my kids will get one.
Every year I do a Hummel picture or card for my friend in Munich - she can't see well enough to sew - so I do one for her birthday.
I've done some of the V&A pictures of teacups on shelves - and have a teapot one waiting to be done.
Just finished a Wedding Card for one of my colleagues at work. We're all going to sign it - I think she'll like it.
Wish I was clever enough to do my own designs from photos etc - I have to have a chart to stick to - prefer counted to the printed type of pattern.
Where do people get their charts and kits etc?
If I go into London, I head for Liberty which has a great needlework/haberdashery department.

There are lots of magazines avaliable that have good charts in them
The ones I get are Quick & Easy Cross Stitch, Cross Stitch Crazy, Cross Stitching and World of Cross Stitching, there are lots of websites too just type cross stitching into the serch engine

Has anyone been to the knitting and stitching exhibition that's at Sandown Park in February every year? That's my downfall, as I go there every year, buy half a dozen every time, then only manage to get two done before I go again the next year and buy another half a dozen. I've also bought a couple of books of fantasy-type designs so when I've finished the kits, I'll start those. Only I'll have picked up more kits then!
And Ebay is a good place to pick them up too.
A quick count gives me 8 kits still to do, at least 3/4 of which are 6 monthers for me with only a couple of hours in the evenings!

I have thought of asking permission from the COmmunity Artists if I could copy their pictures so that I can get a kit from there - there are places you can send photos, and they will design a chart and tell you the colours you need. I need to finish the ones I have first! And they might say no, anyway...

DMC do a photo charting service and it's very good apparently, you can get software to do it too, I go to the Stitch Show every year in March I actually restrained myself this year, There's also a Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace in October

Perhaps those of us who can't go to the Summer Meet could go to a K2P2 Meet at one of the shows?
When we moved down here from Glasgow 4 yrs ago, one of the biggest wrenches was leaving my weekly sewing group
Our families thought that all we did was gossip and drink - but we did actually get through a few miles of thread too.

I like mainly doing big projects. I always have big ambitions. I've got a cat sitting on a pretty map, a tiger, a piece of tartan complete with man in traditional kilt, a spitfire and a couple of small freebie kits from magazines on the go. I normally prefer animals and scenic pictures.
You can get software for the PC which will translate your pictures into X-stitch charts. It isn't too expensive. I saw one for about GBP25.00 in a local John Lewis store. I haven't used them myself so not sure how easy they are to use. I'll ask a male friend who has got one of the programmes. He does X-stitch. He embroiders his denim jackets. He's done a large Duckula and Dangermouse in satin stitch. They look really good. Some peoples jaws drop open when they realise a man embroidered them and he's not gay.

ooh, didn't know about the one in October - I knew there was two around the same time at the beginning of the year, but I normally miss the second one because I assume the stalls will all be the same as the previous one.
I normally go with my mum, this year she treated me to one of those 'needle sorters', so I can leave needles threaded when I change colours. It has saved me lots of time on the last couple of kits I've done.
