Not wishing to criticise, and it sounds lovely (v. similar to my version of Thai chilli prawns, in fact), but wouldn't coriander be better?

Not in the slightest. This is a very aromatic dish, not a curry as such, and basil lends itself very well. My local Thai takeaway put tonnes of basil in everything.
