The hole!
As to why, there are two schools of thought:
1) You get a tummyache if you eat (too many of) the holes
2) If you eat the holes, you won't have them when you have to put the dough around them next year when making Xmas cookies

I forgot to say that I belong to the second school!
When I tell her the reason why she shouldn't eat the holes, my daughter gives me such a funny look, though...

Neither can I...
She's only 8½, and yet she looks that way at me more and more often. That is, if she isn't throwing funny arguments back at me, leaving me in dire need of a quick reply... Probably the consequences of teaching your kids to appreciate turning words around and play with them...
A friend (with older kids) recently told me not to worry yet. "In 5 years she won't even be talking to you..."
Ah, well...

I have a friend who has always been very careful not to use baby talk with her sons - I remember one of them visiting a farm with animals, stopping to watch a duck in a pond.
Elderly lady stops to talk to him: 'What is the birdie doing? Is it having a bath?'
He looks at her, reprovingly, and says 'NOT birdie - DUCK!'
I wonder what Ottox did to his user page to have it moderated? I got curious, of course - and decided to add a few Merry Christmas-greetings in other languages including Swedish to my own page (already had it in English) - and that seemed to be OK.... but I did leave a link to a place where the Moderator/s can check for themselves what the greetings mean, just in case...

At the London meet-up I found out that there is in fact at least one Moderator who knows at least one of the Scandinavian languages - unfortunately there is no method for re-directing specific postings to specific Moderators - so that's why we sometimes get away with posting in 'Scandinavian' and sometimes not, depending on whether that Moderator is on duty or not!

Hmmm... it sounds as, if I just translate it into Swedish by the sound of it - Skepparlapskojs
...but when you describe it, it doesn't sound like lapskojs... *drifting off to find a recipe, never made it herself, never liked it, forced to it in school as a kid*

I made a google search for lapskojs, and there are several hits for skolmatsedel [school menu?]on the first page!
I think it was the boiled meat part that I didn't like...

The potatoes are not mashed as such - you let the whole thing simmer until they're mashed-ish by themselves...
If the meat's good enough, it'll be good. With random bit leftover from whatever you've done I would agree - there's nothing worse than strange, chewy bits...
(we get our meat from cows that are grazing as much as they please - Limousine cattle which makes for great meat! )

And no, I am not familiar with meat balls in any kind of sauce, in Sweden we usually eat them with makaroni cooked in cream...
...although I think I can guess the humourous meaning of 'Boller'...
