Hi GB,
Thanks for submitting thgis. I was going to check with you today whether you were going to do so but it slipped my mind.
Please could you cross hyperlink the names bbetween the Entries (if that makes sense). I couldn't do so, obviously, coz I didn't know what the new 'A Numbers' would be.

I've done what I can, but the chemistry is beyond me I'm afraid. I've added navigation banners to each and linked to each relevant person in the text but if I've missed any gimme a shout, Big Al

Hi GB,
Thanks for doing that
This is what I've noticed:
Wohler:
Is it possible to put an umlaut over the 'o' in the title?
The benzoyl radical (several instances): The '7' and the '5' in C7H5O should be in subscript.
Liebig:
Hyperlink 'Wohler'
The '6' and the '5' in the benzoyl radical C6H5CO should be in subscript.
Kekule:
Is it possible to put an acute accent over the 'e' in his name in the title?
Avogadro hypothesism > hypothesis.
Berxelius > Berzelius
'.... (propanol and butanol respectively...' > put a closing bracket after butanol.
Von Baeyer:
von Baeter's work > von Baeyer's work..

Hi Big Al
No, it's not possible to have umlauts or any foreign characters in the titles (other than the non-linked, own Entry in the banner) it mashes up the browsers, or the search engine, or something
I'll do the rest of your corrections tomorrow (later) as I've been meteor-watching and just off to bed

von Baeyer
Can I just ask, is this code correct:
<<centre of a regular tetrahedron 109°Cdeg28'>><---that last 109°Cdeg28' bit, it just looks so odd to me

I haven't a clue about chemistry, but I'll try to read all the entries.
Let's start with :
A38445096 Friedrich Wöhler
>>During the 18th Century a considerable number of compounds derived mainly from vegetable but some also from animal sources, were known, had been isolated and their properties studied. <<
I don't understand this one. There's either a comma missing somewhere, or a word or more.
>>Lebig and Wöhler<< - would that be Liebig?
>>In 1845, Wöhler established the specific gravity (density) of aluminium prepared using a refinement of Oested's method; thus discovering one of its unique properties - lightness.<< - Again, something seems to be missing in this sentence.

Going on with:
A38425575 Justus von Liebig
>>he was expelled from his Gymnasium<< - I imagine 'Gymnasium' may require an explanation here. From what I know it's similar to a Grammar School.
>>molecular unit, or radical.1<< - Footnote in the wrong place
>>From this he devised specific rules for fertilising rules,<< - drop the second 'rules'

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Posted Aug 2, 2008
Post 14: done the footnote and deleted the second "rules" but I'll wait for the "Gymnasium" explanation from Big Al
Post 13: Lebig and Wöhler<< - would that be Liebig
I'll wait for Big Al to clarify the other two points in 13,

Well, we have three types of schools here:
Gymnasium, Realschule and Hauptschule.
All of them satrt at 5th grade. Hauptschule goes up to 9th, Realschule up to 10th and Gymnasium to 13th grade. Only if you've attended a Gymnasium and passed the final exams (Abitur) you are allowed to go to university.

<'During the 18th Century a considerable number of compounds derived mainly from vegetable but some also from animal sources, were known, had been isolated and their properties studied.'
I don't understand this one. There's either a comma missing somewhere, or a word or more.>
Well, perhaps a comma could come aftr 'isolated', but I was always taught that in such a list a comma needn't be included before the 'and'
However, the comma after 'sources' should be DELETED.
>>Lebig and Wöhler<< - would that be Liebig? > Yes.
'In 1845, Wöhler established the specific gravity (density) of aluminium prepared using a refinement of Oested's method; thus discovering one of its unique properties - lightness. Again, something seems to be missing in this sentence. Not that I can see
However, I think the semi colon would be better as a comma.
After 'lightness', please could you add, Aluminium has about one-third the density of other common metals'.

>>Habilitation-schrift<< - Habilitationsschrift (professorial dissertation) http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lang=de&searchLoc=0&cmpType=relaxed§Hdr=on&spellToler=on&chinese=both&pinyin=diacritic&search=habilitationsschrift&relink=on

For 'gymnasium', add a footnote (which I pinched from Wiki:
'Gymnasium' is used to describe a type of school in some parts of Europe which provides secondary education, comparable to English grammar schools or sixth form colleges and college preparatory high schools in the USA.
Key: Complain about this post
