umm just a few little things, Sauron was a Maiar, like Gandalf and Saruman. In fact both Saruman and Sauron were chosen by the same Vala to go to Middle-Earth, Sauron to fight Melkor and Saruman to fight Sauron. Gandalf held the Elven ring of fire, hence his being able to fight the balrog. And finally Círdan considered Gandalf to be the most powerful of the Istari, and both Elrond and Galadriel thought that he should be the leader of the council of the wise.
