it seems the secret to canadian hockey success is a one-dollar coin. Candian Press reports that Team Canada had placed a loonie--a gold-colored Canadian dollar coin--behind each net at the Sazka arena in the Czech Republic during the World Hockey Championships.
the same two loonies were hidden under the nets during the women's world championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia, two months ago (won by Canada), as well as Canada's Spengler Cup championships last december.
in the 2002 Olympics, a loonie was hidden at centre ice in the hockey venue. both men's and women's teams won gold medals there.
