Don't worry mike, I've been busy doing Genesis lyrics for you, yeah I know i'm that kinda guy (one with too much time on his hands)
But doing all those albums would be stupid online so i'm doing them as .txt files and then when i'm ready, it'll be a case of edit, copy, paste.
Now why the hell did I tell you that? -

Before I go, could you please give me the link for your lyric archieve. I've lost it.

1) Has to be Jimi Hendrix
2) Jimi Page
3) Pete Townsend
4) Steve Earle (unusual choice I know but his pedalstal guitar solo on Johnny's Blues is something else)
5) Ronnie James Dio (although I've only really heard one song of his)

To Mrgrunt, and whoever else it may concern, the h2g2 lyric archive is at http://www.h2g2.com/A241147
Don't worry about writing all the Gensesis lyrics, so long as somebody doesn't turn up with a link to a Genesis lyric page! If they do, I'd almost certainly reject it as you've put a good deal of contributions and effort into the archive, herr grunt.
Updated. Gotta say, it looks like Clapton's days are numbered at the top!

Morning Mike!
Don't be too sure about what you said yesterday, people have more respect for clapton than is really known.
You should have the genesis lyrcis links sent to you by tommorow

OK, here goes!
1: Pat Metheny
2: Eric Clapton
3: Django Reinhart (is that spelling right)?
4: Someone not so famous, but I don't recall any restrictions - Phil Danter (for those in the Birmingham area, he's the older brother of Ian Danter, BRMB's eye in the sky)
5: Graham Kendrick

Just listening to Sky 3 - No mention of John Williams here - why is that? (Well anyway I've shot off my 5 choices).
No ex Sex Pistols either? (Well they came across fame partly due to not being able to play their instruments - so the story according to a TV documentary I saw goes.)

Mike A (snowblind) Posted Feb 21, 2000
Yowzers, Mrgrunt, when did that get approved?
Yeh I saw the date but I never saw it on the front page!
Dudemeister: I love the Pistols but Eric Clapton is better than Sid Vicious any day. Sorry.
And yeah, I'm a better bass player than Sid! I just need to get my band off the ground. You wouldn't beleive the lazy sods I have to work with...

Well I tried to be a one man band but split up because of musical differences.
As for the hendrix link, I think it was up about 5 weeks ago, I remember because it was the day I joined.
Django!!!
typolifi Posted Feb 21, 2000
I think Django Reinhardt is the right spelling, Justin.
He's definitely a great one. To him I would add Matelot Ferret, his less renowned pupil, but who's technique was definitely better, and his style as imaginative as his teacher's.
As for the myriad of contemporary guitarists, I would put Mark Knopfler on the first place, and Clapton on the second (especially for his Cream period). And I would also retain George Harrisson on the podium. There may have been some great technician instead, but he was certainly one of the most inventive guitarists in the century.
But... wait a second ... who are we to judge them? I can't even play my trumpet correctly ( sight )
Django!!!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Feb 21, 2000
Mind putting that in a 1-5 list, please?
I am the one to judge them, of course!
But I sure wish Dave Murray would get more recognition
Django!!!
typolifi Posted Feb 21, 2000
Sorry for dave Murray
I thought it was worth to promote those who ain't so often quoted. that's also why I left guys like Hendrix aside. Which of course doesn't mean that I don't appreciate them
So so so , I figure my figures °-/ would be:
1 Mark Knopfler
2 Clapton
3 Matelot Ferret
4 Django Reinhardt
5 George Harrisson
But then again.....
OK it's OK
Django!!!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Feb 22, 2000
I'm going to be creating a similar survey for drmmers and vocalists soon. Not now, as h2g2 is taking it's time loading. But hopefully very soon.
Thanks to everyone who's voted. Remember to tell your friends about this!
