A Conversation for Librarians

Looks like a good outline for a Submitted Article! Do some research to see if it's been done, and expand it some!

Librarians as Higher Beings......yep, sounds right to me!

Seems unlikely that anyone would be writing about librarians, wonderful creatures though we are. Oh well, at least we get to eat choccie biscuits and coffee for free on Fridays!

i must agree with NM, reads like it would make a great submitted article smiley - smiley and the lack of toilet duty is a BIG + in my opinion smiley - winkeye

You got that right! Also you don't have to do tuckshop which is a , slightly smaller but still important, plus. Question- how long is your average approved guide entry? And how long do they take to be approved?

the average approved guide entry is between 4 and 6 paragraphs and consists of the typical who what when where and why subjects...
such as,
who a librarian is
what a librarian does
when librarians started (the first librarians kind of stuff)
where you can find librarians
why anyone would want to be a librarian
good luck and i will keep my eye on this page to see what you come up with smiley - smiley
oh yea...the time frame for being approved or rejected varies depending on how backed up they are at the moment smiley - smiley sometimes it takes a matter of weeks and other times it can take a couple of months smiley - smiley they do try and get back with the researchers as quickly as possible but as you can imagine with the number of submitted entries it can be quite hard at times smiley - winkeye

Hi Tweetie!

You invited me over to take a look at the article in response to my own interpretation of the same subject, so I did. I agree with FS and Monsy that it has some potential - and it certainly approaches the subject from a different perspective than what I have written.

I also agree with Monsy's implied receommendation to add some stuff, although the stuff you'd have to add might be a little hard to find on the 'net. Not many people have potted histories of librarianship lying around! From an editorial perspective, now (smiley - smiley), the article needs more information, as well as to broaden its perspective a bit.

Write me again if you can't find anything, and feel free to ask me if you want any of what I've already done, or an opinion on what I actually do!

About the wait for publication: at the moment it's still something like twelve weeks, although in the haze of post-Christmas/"millennial" celebration and spring cleaning of the registers at h2g2 by the senior editors, we're currently dealing with a crop of stuff that was actually submitted somewhat longer than that ago! Some things DO fall through the net.smiley - winkeye

You can submit stuff and edit it after it's submitted, and doing this may shorten the wait for your completely finished article's acceptance. The only trick with this is to make sure that all the editing you want to do is completed BEFORE the article gets to the subs - otherwise they'll pass judgement, edit and/or reject an earlier version which doesn't have all the information you found later. We'd love to have the time to talk to every author about every piece of work they submit, but we can really only deal with things on face value.

I'm not that surprised by how articulate you are - you're an apprentice librarian, after all...smiley - smiley!

Fortunately, school work can occasionally be put to good use in the real world! A couple of weeks ago we were cruelly forced to write a report in English based on- ta da- libraries and their history! Therefore I have a wealth of knowledge at my disposal and will be able to include it in my brand-spanking new edition of the guide entry! Wish me luck!

Okay, do you have enough emoticons in here? Might be a wee while before the "masterpiece" is created on account on modern version of medievil torture. Ok fine, prelims if you have to call them that.
