Exactly.
Now, all we have to do is tell them that, and be prepared to have a new record for "longest rant in a h2g2 posting".
Those christians sure write long postings when they get upset. What I shame I never read them. They are so boring...

I like to think that the debate thread off my 'Failure of Xtianity' article is the mother of all religious debates. It certainly is a long mother f$%^^%#, anyway.

Thanks to h2Olli I've had the pleasure of scrolling through "What is Scientology" by Leviathan Hubby. It's great! So much crap in one book. According to it, it's a fact that Scientologists are less accident-prone! lol

Can you point us down to their little place?
I don't mean to go there and start throwing bottles. But if I start reading then their ignorance (*^_^*) will sure send me into a fit. I'll show them the error of their ways...

Lear (the Unready) Posted Mar 20, 2000
Hullo, I've just joined the FFFF and I thought I'd better introduce myself to
people. My name is not Lear, obviously, but it'll do, people can call me that if
they need something to call me by, and I live in London, England. Readers who
require more information should go to my h2g2 home page @
http://www.h2g2.com/U114471 and hold their breath for a couple of weeks while I
get around to putting something up there.
On the subject of early American writers, which I think people were talking about
a week or so ago, I don't know anything about Mark Twain, particularly, but at the
moment I'm reading Walden by the 'nature philosopher' Henry David Thoreau. Just
thought I'd mention it. I'm presently looking for some biographical detail on this
odd, engaging, character. I must say, speaking as somebody who long ago scored a
notable personal victory over style fascism, by the simple expedient of completely
ignoring it, I can only cherish the memory of a man whose best line was "beware of
all enterprises that require new clothes." I think this romantic dream of
self-sufficiency still has a pull - perhaps the pull is even greater today, in a sense,
and tinged with nostalgia, too, because every time we trouble to look at what's left of the
natural world today we see how far we've come from it, and how impossible it would
(probably) be for us to get back from here, or realign ourselves with it.
Anyway, I don't think I could hack this kind of lifestyle myself - how many people could?
I like the Skeptic's Bible, by the way. I've just being reading Genesis - for the
first time ever, in fact. I never realised there were two contradictory creation
stories - and that's just in the first couple of chapters. And I love those
'Absurdity' icons scattered all over the place.
please allow me to introduce myself ....

PS - I don't know why the above came out looking like a bad poem. Something wrong with my Notepad, I think.

Welcome Lear!
It's always nice to, well, whatever the internet equivalent of 'see a new face' is. May I ask how you find your way to us in so short a time? I'm just trying to guage how easy it is for new people to find us. Will you be declaring an allegiance to one camp or another, or are you merely here to peruse? Just keen to get to know new bods!
Well, sorry I haven't been around to update the HoR, but I have a good excuse - I've been reading material to review! The book mentioned above, "The Secret Chamber" (which is where I got the idea for the Hall of Records from)should be my next entry. It recommends several websites which I thought I would post for the perusal of anyone that's interested:
The official website of the Upuaut project:
http://www.cheops.org
The Argos search engine for the 'ancient and medieval internet':
http://argos.evansville.edu/
The Guardians Egypt website (featuring 3D and wireframe models of the pyramids, temples, etc.)
http://www.guardians.net/egypt/
please allow me to introduce myself ....

Hey Lear. Don't press enter (return) and you shouldn't get that broken up stuff. I could be wrong though.
On the pics for our logo. I just asked Peta who I should go to, and though I didn't get an answer from her, vegiman suggested I talk to Peringrin or (someone else) to see about getting art posted here. Peringrin started the h2g2 Christian, though, so cajoling him into doing art (or collaborating) with us might be a little tricky. It would be neat if we had a logo like theirs (with Scopes and Darwin, of course).
If you haven't stopped by to see the prospectives yet, the links to them are at:

I just recieved a shiny new copy of "The Blind Watchmaker" today and was wondering if you thought Richard Dawkins suitable for the foundation archives?

I was invited to join some time ago by GB but never got around to it. I apologize for my tardiness.
I was awakened (word?) by my mother this afternoon with news about an eight year old girl and her mother. It seems that at a local church they had kids burning Pokemon cards in Sunday school. They were telling the kids that they would go to hell for playing with them. My mom said that the girl was still upset about it. The mother said that they would be looking for another church. But is that going to do her any good?
And on my way into the school library I saw a sign for the babtist (which by the way, is what I was brought up as) club. They're having a speaker that they had here a while back who is a 'reformed homosexual'. His lecture is called 'dealing with homosexuality'. When will it stop?
I'm sick of these people making a big deal about things that don't hurt anyone while people are suffering everyday. Kids are killing each other and the religious right say it's because we don't have the ten commandments posted at schools. They're worried about Tinky Winky and Big Bird being gay while heterosexuals are molesting childern everyday. AAAAARGH!
Sign me up.

kwigibo; please excuse my ignorance, but my literary experience does not run as far as the fellow you mention. The Hall of Records does not yet have its fiction page, because I haven't had a fiction review. What might I expect from this book?
GreyRose; Welcome! I've seen some of your postings in other forums. What chair will you occupy?

Welcome to the faithless GreyRose . Yes, the church does do some fantastic things. Anyone get to read Amos Oz' article in G2 of the Guardian today? It was about "Rabbi Jesus", why Catholics can't get along with Jews, how Jesus would never enter a church and worship an emblem and the pope's great tour of Israel. Remind me again why I reject any religion?

Hiya Grey! *grumbles under breath "It's about damned time!"*
Before you can be added to the Board, you'll have to come up with a name for the chair. Otherwise, we can't manufacture one to your specifications. Don't worry about making the name overly clever too...just check the list and you'll see what I mean.
BTW...while I'm on the subject, Fishy-Bob once asked me to change it to -bob. This works fine in forums, but it wouldn't work on the main page without an tag, and I would have to get the address for that goofy little GIF file before I could make that change.

Bienvenue, tout les personnes nouveau,
Apologies to anyone who actually does speak French properly - what I meant to say was "Welcome, all the new people", but i'm sure what it actually says is "Your mothers wear army boots" or something like that.
GB - about the y-bob thing. No probs - if it's really going to be such a pain to sort out then don't bother.
Anyway, back to business - what shall I rant about today? Aah OK, the 'Religious people are homophobic a******s' argument. Yep, this is another fascist element of religion that I just can't deal with. I'm not gay myself, but I have absolutely no problem with anyone who is. I do have an extreme problem with homophobics, though, the same way I have problem with racists. Yet again, it goes to show how hypocritical the whole 'God loves all his children' nonsense is.
I think the philosopher Popeye said it best - "I've had all I can stands, and I can't stands no more"
