Bob,
I read Roman Construction Methods, and not yet the other entry, but here are my observations so far:

1. Your entry begins with this sentence, "Starting with the best known of a Roman building projects the road, this entry will explain other types of construction methods." You probably want to decide whether you want to write about types of Roman building projects or types of Roman construction methods, and then modify this sentence accordingly.

2. You are only covering two types of Roman construction projects - roads and bridges. The Romans built rather a lot of other types of structures, including civic buildings, arenas, aquiducts, cisterns, temples, and an enormous wall to keep the Picts out.

3. Wherever possible, use the active voice. When you write in the active voice, your sentences tend to be shorter and easier to read. For example:
Passive voice: The main reason that a Roman road was built was for military transport.
Active voice: Romans built roads mainly for military transport.

4. Try printing off your entry and reading it aloud. When I read aloud, I easily find such typographical errors as, "When he arch was finished the stonework was completed."

Hope this helps!

You're welcome. smiley - smiley

I've read the Stane Street entry. I think I'm a little confused. Perhaps a native of England wouldn't be so confused, but alas, most of my knowledge of that green and pleasant land has been gleaned from books.

"We are going to travel back in time to 100-200 AD, when the journey described in this Entry would have been possible." Does this mean that the journey is impossible now? Or that in places you are a few hundred meters from the ancient road, but you are nonetheless traveling parallel to that old route? Sometimes, modern roads are built on old roads or even old trails. Is that the case?

Hi Happy_Nerd

Although you can follow the journey the exact route is not sometimes even recorded due to re routing of the roads it has been lost.

>>Or that in places you are a few hundred meters from the ancient road, but you are nonetheless traveling parallel to that old route? Sometimes, modern roads are built on old roads or even old trails.<<

Both statements are in fact true, you can be on, near or miles off the original route.
Land owners were the problem as they had the roads routed round their property.

The Romans did not have the problem as they took no notice of a few stroppy natives the just did what they wanted.

We are creating some maps to clear this up.smiley - smiley
