Hi Bob,

Wondered if you'd heard of the skeleton found in a\ lead coffin at Alborough?

The skeleton is believed to date from the 2nd-4th Century and is over 5 fett long with a full set of teeth It hasn't yet been officially sexed but is beloieved to be of a woman The lead coffin was 6 feet long and was found in a stone chamber

TYhe excavation was carried out by York Archaeological Trust, with funding from English Heritage. The trust's principal conservator, Ian Panter, says that it's only the second Roman lead coffin burial he's ever worked on, the first being over 20 years ago. in the South of England.

The skeleton must be of a we---to-do family - her status being reflected in the expoensive coffin.

Can't recall if you mention this in your Entry, but, Isurium Brigantium was a prosperous imperial outpost, replete with baths and a temple.

Good article however not much detail.
I am going to thke a stab at this, the body is from an area south of the site, and also from the spare information supplied Christian and probably female.
What is your take on thisnsmiley - smiley
