Seriously though, I get into so many debates with people who are arguing for lower taxes (or a simpler tax system , or whatever) and your article just put all the relevant points so succinctly and persuasively...

A simpler tax system would be a good thing... although I don't know enough about these things to understand what's so difficult about the one we have or how to simplify it 
I'm so damn sick and tired of constantly hearing people demand lower taxes and voting for anyone who puts more money in their pocket, and then complaining about the lack of services

I agree with you.
Living in Sweden, that used to be considered the country with the highest taxes in the world I can see what damage this "lowering-the-taxes-plague" has made in our country as well. Of course it is the same as every where else. The standard of healthcare, education etc is not what it used to be. Of course it is the weakest members in our society that beats the dust.
Take from the rich - Give to the poor!
