I have the Fujifilm A 401 digi camera and it works fine, no problems at all.

My camera is a Sony Cybershot 3.2 it's fairly easy to use but you need to consult the manual to get the setting right for you, it comes with a 16Mb stick, you'll need to upgrade to a higher Mb as you can only get about 10 pics on it, I've got a 64Mb in my camera ATM and I haven't filled it yet

Big advantage of the Fujifilm is that you can adjust the resolution of your pics to get more onto a 16Meg card.

Mine is set on 640x480 and I can get about 350 frames on a 64 meg card. But as there is the wonderful option of deleting the ones you don't like, I haven't filled it yet. Although I do upload regularly to my pc, even on a fortnight's holiday I didn't run out of room.
I don't know what editing suite Fujifilm sell the cameras with now, 5 years ago it came with an Adobe program: PhotoDeluxe, which they no longer produce. So I use Adobe PhotoShop Elements and that is fine for my photographic capabilities.

Thank you all so much for your helpful advice.
Why is the term Fujiofilm used? I thought that a digicamera did not use film just a little sort of metal "casette" which can be used and reused. I also like the idea of being able to look at a fairly bigger image of what I am going to photograph, and I definitely want to be able to view it on either the computer and/or the TV and also to be able to download it.
So now I shall be going to look at models. I suppose that none of you have an idea of the pixels? or picbels? which apparently means the number of dots to a picture. Apparently the higher the no of Pic?'s the better the definition of the picture. My goodness how photography has changed since the box Brownie!!.
Incidentally do any of you have the ability of taking a little video on your digital camera?
I shall be able to have a video taken when I am having thalassatherapy in Etaples - i.e. a seawater mud bath! What a wonderful idea!!
sorry for the lengthy answer.

Fujifilm is name of the company that makes that particular brand of digital cameras. Presumably they started out making film for normal cameras, before branching out.
Gerneral rule of thumb, the higher the number the better the picture, but the fewer pictures you'll be able to take. Most digital cameras have the option to change the quality of the pictures so that you can take lots of pictures. You don't generally need the very high quality pictures unless you're a professional photographer.
Most Digital cameras are capable of taking very short videos, if you want longer videos you'll want a digital camcorder.

Also the higher the resolution, or more pixels, the longer it takes to download and some websites only lower resolutions.
I don't print my photos off so the 640x480 selection is fine for my use.
I also have a digital camcorder that I very kindly let H use . Now that is a whole different ball game and the main reason for my needing shed loads of memory and a very much faster PC. Editing on a PC needs plenty of memory and room for backing up your work, which I discovered the hard way when I lost hours of work when a hard disk imploded under the strain (well, not literally). But I usually have around 5 hours of digital video to edit down to 1 hour, before adding voice overs, music and effects. But I probably don't do it in the most efficient way and I'm sure there are plenty of others here who know more about it than me.

Erm, if I could divert you from the discussion of digital imagery for a moment - Fotango have finally accepted my photos from the meet.
See here http://photos.fotango.com/cgi-bin/public_gallery_item.cgi?id=450447&ORIG_REFERER=public_shares.cgi
All taken on my Nikon Coolpix 3100, which I've had for a year now and am very happy with ease of use and quality of results.

I do not think that I would want to print my photos Caerwyn,m except possibly for a few. I have loads and loads and loads ......of photos which I have absolutely nowhere to store much less time to look at. It is much easier to store them on a computer! Actually K. has been wonderful in bringing old photos to me which I had forgotten all about.
My goodness you are a fundi with the camcorder!!.
Am going to post the bouquet to Pan today.
Thanks for the info.

I have just printed one of my meet photos off my card at a Photomaton machine in Paris and am very pleased with the results. I used an Olympus mju:300. It is my favourite photo of the whole day...
