Abi and I always fancied the idea of laser quest or paintballing. Virtually shooting virtual Researchers always seemed like a good idea.
You divide teams up randomly, so no-one gets to stick with their mates, and it works really well for mingling etc.

Fancy dress ? - worst time for me is in February here, when The Germans have their 'Carnival', but if the majority of researchers wnats to wear a fancy dress, then I've atleast been at one meet

RF, I'm not gigging the 12th, so may join you. Post me nearer the date.
Don't have any qualms about Fancy Dress, and unsure how you'd do Paint-balling in Central London. Ten-Pin Bowling would have to be booked well in advance, for a Saturday, and would have to be Queensway. This can be reached by the Central Line (The Red One), which is erratic, the Suicide line (The Yellow One) which is regularly suspended or delayed, hence its pseudonym, from the East, and the district (The Green One) from the South and West.
I've played 'Pass the Pigs' with 20+ in a Pub, on a wet winter's evening...for 4 Hours. Ended up with free drinks from the Landlord for putting smiles on his punters' miserable Fizzoggs for the first time .
I'll keep the Thinking Head on......

I too as a real ale drinker think my organaleptical anyalisis of the various products on offer at the various potential ventues, may be a bonsus to any pre-meet testing of venues

Why does it "have to be" there? A couple of previous official meet ups (Dec 1999 and November 2000) have taken place at Elephant and Castle bowling lanes and isn't there a fancy new one at Surrey Quays?

The only problem with going bowling, is the sheer numbers. We would effectively take over the entire building and i'm not sure if the bowling centre would survive being taken over by a drunken mass of hootooers.

Well, bowling (or whatever is decided on for an afternoon activity) may not attract all the attendees, same as the picnic didn't 2 weeks ago, so I'm sure the numbers could be coped with if we let the bowling alley know in advance. Also, hopefully the Hootooers will be sober, at least when they turn up! <
And some people will, as usual, only be able to make the evening anyway.

A bowling evening wouldn't induce me to attend, I'm afraid. It's not my cup of at all.
But it's not down to the individual, rather the majority, so I'll just wait and see what develops.

OK, 2legs, this may take some time...
Sober: a condition caused by not drinking alcohol for a protracted period of time. Objects suddenly resolve themselves into the singular, your memory miraculously returns, your desire to eat kebabs at midnight is reduced (but strangely, doesn't disappear entirely), and you find yourself able to walk without leaning against objects or falling over.

I should be able to pop down and help choosing pubs!
I think part of the problem with choosing an activity is one that the majority of people would like. One where people would have an activity to get them mixing and talking to each other, but give them space to talk and get to know each other.

I'm not normally a big participant in afternoon activities; I tend to loiter at the Princess louise or shakespears head; to meet anyone who arrives for the meet
Key: Complain about this post
