I am now 13, so will want a girlfriend a lot in a cuople of years. Unfortuneately I have a reputation for being one of the biggest nerds in the year. What do I do?

Hey. This might not be what everyone thinks, but it is coming from a 16 year old girl who can tell you what most girls want. They want someone who is nice, funny, doesn't insult them, makes them feel good about themselves, is supportive, is serious when they need to be but who can also joke around and have fun. Of course, it is impossible to do all of this, so hereis what I suggest. Be yourself and hope for the best. If you like a girl, don't insult her and be nice to her. If she doesn't like a guy who does that then you shouldn't waste your time on her.
If you are worried about your image as a nerd, don't be. You are what you are. However, you can change your image if you want to. I am probably not the person to ask how (I have changed what people cinsidered me to be many times, but I have never been considered a nerd). You might want to post another question for that one. But, if the girl doesn't like you for you then I suggest that you move on.
Good luck and Goodbye.
If you ever need a friend or someone to talk to you can always get in touch with me or email me at: [email protected]

This sounds really promising... I mean what you say girls want... I hope all girls feel that way...
But the real problem with girlfriends is getting a girl that you love and that ignores you... and this is a problem that, as far as I know, can't be solved
Thanks for encouraging us boys

Hi PP, Trillian. I'm just butting in here to say my piece.
Trillian's right about one thing (more than one thing actually), you really should just be yourself. After all, if you pretend to be someone who you really aren't, will it really be *you* going out with her?
I too look for guys who can make me laugh - this is probably the first thing I look for - someone who you have at least *something* in common with, and, finally (I know it's asking a lot) someone who'll listen...
If she ignores you, then I know it'll be hard, but there's very little you can do about it and you should *try* and move on.
Then again, this is all coming from someone, who someone else thought was a guy...but, at least it mean's that, if people thuoght I was a guy before and I looked for these things, then at least you'll know now that everyone knows I'm not a guy, that the things people look for in each other aren't that different.(That didn't make much sense I suppose)
People are alway's welcome back at my home page if anyone want's to ask anything.

From my personal experience, be her friend.
Listen to her. Talk to her.

Yep, if you have trouble just being her friend then it's very unlikely that anything else'll happen.
Greebo, a |_| of milk, a (or a big fish, ><))> or a <:3)~? Which of those would be best, or would you like all of them?

Well, I can speak from experiance on this.
A few years back, if someone was tlaking about nerds, my name would of come up in seconds.
That image wasn't me, I hated it, so I changed it.
It was hard work, but I managed it
I got my self in shape, joined the rugby team, stopped hanging out in the 'puter lab, stopped telling stupid jokes
Shave my 6 inches of hair and stopped listening to Rammstein, NIN, etc. Started listening to the Beastie Boys (That was the big thing, I have all of their CD's now, best band ever!)
I'm now 15, counted as one of the best looking guys in my school.
But one thing hasn't changed: my personality. What I had before was my personality, but also other peoples. As soon as I stopped being a poser and stopped _trying_ to fit, I started fitting in
Well,m there's my life story, I'm getting tired. I think I'm gonna go get something to eat. Hope this helps u...
(Oh, and BTW, I do have a GF now)

Forsake women. Search for the imminent self. Seek greater understanding always. Know that you
know nothing.
Seriously, getting into a romantic relationship is pretty easy, even for a nerd. But finding lasting happiness
in any relationship requires wisdom, patience, and an intimate knowledge of your own strengths and
weaknesses. You must have something to bring to a relationship, and then it will seek you out.
All romance is illusion, and all heartbreak is a rude awakening. Avoid both.
Oh, yeah, eat a lot of fattening food too. A lot of really good-looking bi-curious girls have illicit Santa
fetishes ( this is fact).

A suggestion from someone who is old enough to know better -
Stick around and talk.
Cast all ideas of union from your mind and talk
Just talk
"Be yourself" is useless advice because you do not really know who that is because you are on the inside looking out.
Just talk, and the 'you' you hide will become clearer and clearer with every passing day and then...
Without knowing how or why
Without trying
Without your actually wanting or chancing or trying anything
Voila
Une nana!

I agree with the last entry - being yourself is often very hard, especially when you are still working out who you are, wishing you were who you want to be and trying not to be someone else altogether. Don't think about things too hard and the worthwhile things usually just happen by themselves (sounds kinda like fate, eh?). But I would also like to add that I think that honesty is the most important thing. Be true to yourself and to others no matter what. I think that I will leave it at that as this is becoming all to fortune-cookie-esque.

I should preface this by asking your meaning of "nerd". If you mean you're socially inept, then slow down a little bit and think about what you're saying and doing before a situation comes up that has the same reaction as the last time - assuming it was negative.
If you mean you think a lot and feel awkward with emotions, that's okay. 13 is the beginning of tremendous awkwardness for everyone, and you'll learn as you go. For some reason, Western society frowns on people that are smart and know it; ignorance is, or has been, deified.
Something to remember for yourself, and remind others occasionally, is that the nerds are usually the ones that run ISPs, design computer software and make the Internet what it's turning into. They can be both powerful and dangerous, so being on their good side is a definite advantage. (Check out the documentary shows "The Triumph Of The Nerds" for reference; there's also a book by that name, if memory serves.)
There's also an intimidation factor that goes along with being bright; you may be better at thinking than someone who's better with their hands.
I'll bet there's probably far too much here to absorb in one go so I'll stop.
