Zarquon's Singing Fish! Posted Mar 26, 2004
Lovely entry, Fb! One of my favourites is the one where the hare brought fire to the earth (stole fire) - it's an American tale.

ZSF: I didn't come across that one. It's not in the entry Can something be put in by the subs retrospecitively??? If so, please post text for inclusion in the 'America' section and I'll make a request.
I'm all for new tales...
Of course, if you're subbing ZSF that'ld make it a lot simpler

It's an interesting story, Fb. You don't normally associate hares with being brave, but this one was the only animal brave enough to go and steal a coal (in her ears), which is why the tips of the ears are darker - she got scorched carrying it. She was fast enough to run away and to dodge the projectiles thrown at her (which left an indentation [or was it a dark mark] on the top of her head).
I'd love to sub it, however I have to new ones at the moment, so no doubt someone else will get this lovely entry.

Hi Frenchbean,
I've been given your easterly entry to subedit, and the result is at A2465426. If you spot something that needs attention, please drop me a note. BTW, I've incorporated the tale from ZSF's posting, hope you agree with where I've placed it. If not, please say so.

Hi SchrEck Inc
I'm a bit unsure about ZSF's bit, cos I'm not sure who the hare was stealing fire for - and why??? I don't feel comfortable having a myth in here that isn't a full story...
ZSF: can you let me have a source of that story, or fill it out for me please?

Hello there... I haven't had time to get onto this yet. Lambing is taking up most of my spare time. Hope to get to it at the weekend.

Hi SchrEck
Lots of little successfully born and now leaping around the fields. I have some time to myself and have finally got round to this
Please could you replace the last paragraph in the 'America' section with the following (I hope you can simply cut and paste it into the entry?):
There is another North American Indian tale involving the young 'Cunning Hare' who was so hungry he caught fish in the river, but had no fire to cook it. Whilst stealing fire from humans, he was caught by the ears and almost eaten himself. But he escaped, albeit a little singed. It is said this is the reason for the hare's black ear-tips.
Let me know if that's okay

Hi Fb,
looks good, the America section is now updated.
