OK I had approved this article under the old system but it got turned down so amybe some of you out there can help improve it to meet the standard required as I am at a loss as to what more can be added.
One thing if anyone does know the date on which Kingston was officially given Royal status it may be helpful as I have have treid every concieveable source I know of to no avail.

It's a little "bitty". It needs to flow better. Perhaps concentrating on the royal connections and expanding on them would improve matters. The other details (university, football club, restaurants) could be left for another article.

Hi DD,
The answer to your question is 1927.
It came about from A Royal commission in 1924 on London government that threatened to annex Kingston into the London County Council. The then Mayor, Alderman Finney argued that Kingston could look after its own affairs quite well thank you, without any interference from London and had been doing so since Anglo Saxon days. He worked to raise public awareness and Kingston retained its self governing authority. In 1927 he petitioned King George V to change the
borough’s name from ‘Kingston upon Thames’ to ‘The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames’.The King consented and the borough name changed.
I have put up some further information at http://www.h2g2.com/A425279 which I hope you may find useful.
By the way, 'Volts' has suffered refurbishment in the last six months and now rejoices under the name 'Works'
All the best A.M.

Excellent Entry (again) DD The only thing I didn't like with it was in the first paragraph. It is like it is already half way through the Entry. You mention where it got its name, but (well I think this, so please feel free to fling it straight back) first of all you should mention what it is, where it is, that sort of thing and then move onto how it got its name etc. I suppose this could be the job of the SubEd, but it is always good for the Author to do it how they would like it (stops any trouble later). Just my £0.02, I hope it helps Until later.....

Yes. I think the first paragraph is much better now, laying a bit of ground work for the rest of the Entry to hang off SHouldn't have any bother getting through the Peer Review Though the old version probably wouldn't have either But it seems to fall together a lot more now So it is just patience now, waiting for a Scout to pick it (shouldn't be long, as Scouts are able to pick more than one at a time now Well, until later....

Only a short wait now then Well done DD, this has been Peer Reviewed and found to be extra crispy. It has moved from this place to the SubEd place, and from there will make its way to The Front Page. However, as you well know, it may take a wee bitty of time to reach its deserved place in the Edited Guide, so patience is required. Again Congrats (and on the whole FC thing, as I havn't seen you for a whiley This Thread is now closed.
