Come on everyone! Surely there's an h2g2 member who's your enemy in some way. This is the place where you can talk about them without them knowing (hopefully). Problem with me is that since my enemy works at TDV, it's very hard for him not to know about this place......

Really? So why did you start a new conversation (Exnay) where you were trying to escape from Bruce?

It is a long running joke... kind of like one-up-manship

Don't worry, it's called paranoia, and yes, theres a cure, it's called abstension! This seems to me to be a particularly scarlet coloured fish (herring?).
If not, them I am concerned because I feel really at home here, and despite my ignorance, have been unable to find any enemies at all.
I am surprised to read your pathetic input, and prepared to support h2g2 to the bitter end... not that it will be necessary as all the members are ready to repel this kind of unwanted trivia!!!

Kia Ora, Katsy!
Congrats on your 1st Guide Entry (submitted). In support of you, I know of an H2G2 Page round here your enemy won't know about!
If you e-mail me from the link on my H2G2 homepage, I'll e-mail you back with the URL of this page I know of. Then you can bask in the glow of a secret until your enemy stumbles across this page for himself... Boy oh boy, to see your enemy's face at that moment...

Ahh, lovely, except I'll have to wait a few days before I can as I'm not really supposed to be online on Monday's as it's expensive. I'll wait until Saturday night. Thanks anyway.
Mature student:are you trying to tell me my first guide entry is rubbish? If so you are officially an enemy and should leave this place at once!

Criticism viewed as an attack? That's a bit rash! BTW, I think you missed Katsy's point, Mature student. As I may have also done...

Still can't quite see the point, but perhaps I'm a bit too serious sometimes, I tried to loosen up with the party in that whale earlier on, but got seasick! Please be patient with a mere beginner...

Here I am!
I'll be your enemy! Unless you can think of something useful to say.
Ha Ha.
One, pathetic entry and you ask me if I've done anything useful.

Hi, Stragbasher:
The Editor of the Guide Entry for which this is the forum, is in the early part of their teenage years. The first post in this thread explains something of their reasons for creating this forum. An older sibling, who works for the company which created and runs the H2G2 Website, has in another forum threatened to post picture scans from earlier childhood, which this young Editor considers embarrassing. For teenagers image is everything, especially amongst their peers. Hence this Guide Entry and its forum.
Subject to certain conditions -which can be viewed by clicking the "don't panic!" link in the goo above, H2G2 accepts and encourages Guide Entries on any topic from any of its signed-up Researchers of any age or ability. The Editor of this Guide Entry is enthusiastic about this project to the extent of seeking out and encouraging schoolmates to join up, and to help them when they do.
• "I'll be your enemy!…" ???
• "Unless you can think of something useful to say." ???
• "One, pathetic entry…" ???
Rather unkind and thoughtless and undeserved comments here, now, I would say.

Yes, you're right.
I apologise.
However there is a genuine issue at the guide in general that 90% of what takes place here is not very interesting to anybody coming in to it at a later date, or at any other kind of distance - geographical, cultural, social etc.
This forum is not the place to be discussing this. As part of someone else's homepage this is the place where the researcher should be free to talk any amount of inane rubbish without fear of harassment by miserable buggers like me.
The "submission guidelines" entry, on the other hand, is the appropriate place to be discussing the way in which submitted entries are handled - not for the discussion I stumbled over a while ago - started by someone else entirely. I left a note to that effect and somebody left me a reply asking if I was going to do anything useful, so I came to their homepage to see if they were qualified to be asking such stupid questions.
I did discuss the issue of what is "useful" first. I opted for informative, interesting or amusing as my criteria - purely subjective definitions which make this homepage as "useful" as anything produced by anybody else if viewed by the appropriate audience. I am not the right audience for this entry, so I don't consider it useful. But who am I to judge? In the normal course of events I wouldn't ever come here, and that would be no loss to either of us.
Anyway, I left a rude message to illustrate the point that I (and I am not the only one) have been trying to make for a while. There's a right place for everything, and if people put things in the right places then the world (or at least the guide) might be a bit easier to understand. The alternative is for each and every guide entry to be all about everything that has ever occurred to any researcher - in which case it's useless as a "guide" and we might as well all go and hang out in chatrooms.
On reflection that was not the cleverest thing I've ever done, but I'm not famous for being especially smart - OR USEFUL! - so you'll just have to deal with it. Like you said, the guide welcomes all comers and all beliefs. There's room for us all here, if we stay in our own spheres, and I personally have better things to do than be harassing teenagers for treading on my toes.
Oh well, enough 'adult' stuff. Now can I go back to organising my defense of the entry I wrote recently claiming that Ireland was the homeland of New Zealand's Maori people? They rejected it because it was not serious enough. I mention this in case you think I have no sense of humour. I do, it's just reserved for when it's appropriate.
once again, apologies
chris
