I must admit, I picked this about three months ago, just after the author disappeared.
'Twas rejected at the time. Which I did think was rather unfair. As you say GD, it is quite close to being finished.

Maybe it should go to the Flea Market, then I can adopt it, re submit it, then you can pick it again, and Mickey can sub it.

Well Geggs, if that is the case that it has been through the mill once before, then I reckon Z's idea is for the best. That way we will, eventually, get this into the Guide without editorial hum-ing and hah-ing at the Scout pick stage.
Mikey, what do you think?

Not that Mickey has to sub it, I (hopefully) could get it to a standard when it shouldn't need that much subbing.

Sounds fine to me.
However, in my experience, entries that would (and have been) rejected otherwise will sometimes be accepted by TPTB if they know there's a sub who will take it.
But having Z pick it up in the Flea Market is probably the smoothest and easiest way to go about it, so I'm all for that.

I must say that I'm surprised at the idea that this would have trouble getting through. In my subbing days I helped to salvage entries that were in MUCH worse shape than this rather fine piece of work.
Anyway, here's a link that someone could usefully add - http://www.birminghamuk.com/BrumFoto/walsall/arboretum/Thumbnails.html
- it's to some rather nice pictures of the Arboretum, on a local tourist info site.

The bar has been raised quite a bit, in large part due to the fact that the in house editors no longer have the time they used to, to go over the entries themselves after the subs turned them in.

Whoever ends up working on this might like to make the following changes:
Remove the two headings at the start.

I think it's six of one and half a dozen of the other... I was a Sub as well as a Scout until last October, and occasionally used to recommend entries like this while volunteering to Sub them because I knew exactly what needed doing and a little about the subject matter.
And entries submitted by Sub-Editors usually require very little subbing, of course.
But maybe it's better for Z to take it from the Flea Market? A few extra pairs of eyes to put it through PR again and another sub looking through it once picked is probably unnecessary but it certainly can't hurt.
And it's not like it's a seasonal entry that requires particular speed, no?

OK then, it looks like the concensus is that this should go through the FM route. So here's a call for a seconder for the move.

Hello you lovelies!
Well although there is still a wee bit of work that could be done on this entry, we do think there's a great deal of merit to it. A Scout has just picked it for us, and I think we're going to accept it. Rest assured we'll give it to a dilligent sub to go through with a fine tooth-comb!
Cheers everyone!
Paully

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
