What's the point of walnut whips?

Just wondered if anybody knew. I mean, soft centre plus massive nut - not going to please anybody there, are you?
My favourite sweets are the ones you can't really safely eat once you've ruined your adult teeth (by eating too many sweets) and have fillings. Black Jacks, Fruit Salads, Drumsticks - nice and chewy. Also sweets you have to buy by the quarter in paper bags - rhubarb and custards, and blackberry and raspberries were good too. But I've been wary of boiled sweets since smashing a tooth on a modern strawberry and cream one (can't remember the name but they might be related to Polos ... or be Spanish). So my current favourite is proper fudge in a slab from The Toffee Shop, which carries no risk to one's teeth apart from gently helping them to rot away.
And Haribo - where's the fun in that? Somebody else has done the choosing for you. Give me cornershop pick'n'mix any day. Just off for a dip in my Sherbert fountain!

The point of a walnut whip is to gently nibble the top off, squidgle ones tongue into the fondant.. its an experience, not a reasen.
Also - it involves chocolate.

I saw one in my local shop a few months ago which was a maple & pecan whip, maple flavoured fondant with a pecan on the top. Of course, I had to try one in the name of scientific evaluation, and I have to say - it was pretty much like a walnut whip!

Trouble is, "Pecan Whip" sounds like a sort of perversion -
but if you researched it in the name of culinary science, then thats alright!

The point to a walnut whip is, of course, to eat it in reverse to the way it was put together... sort of. You bite off the walnut at the top and then (as described by another researcher) lick out all of the cream. But then you nibble away at the chocolate at the top without taking any from the next layer down. As you munch you go round and round. Or stay still and move the chocolate - not as much fun but much less dizziness - until you end up with a flat disk of chocolate.
In the good old days there was a second walnut piece waiting for you at the bottom but I guess with the cuts and everything...

They seem to have stopped making the coffee walnut whip - I used to treat myself even though I don't like walnuts
