A Conversation for Talking Point: The Great Sweet Debate
Ah, sweeties, how do I love thee?
quizzical Started conversation Feb 28, 2004
Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My hands can reach, when groping out of sight
For munchies of the chocolatey sort.
I love thee in cheesecake or multi-layered torte.
Most desperate need, by the morning's gentle light.
I love thee even moreso by noon and approaching night;
I love thee with a passion undying,
Untempted by fruits or snacks more healthy.
I'll have my or else die trying,
Though the effort leave me less than wealthy.
My joy, my consolation, reward for life's travails:
Lovers come and go, but prevails!
(apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning)

You are aware now that after reading that I will have to go out and gorge myself on everything that is sweet, emulsifyingly creamy, and bad for me?
I have no favourites. I'll eat them all. Not too fussed on those Flying saucers, though, I always ended up choking on the sherbit.

I was eating chocolate as I was writing that. I'm actually pretty fussy. American chocolate is nothing to get excited about. Fortunately I can buy European chocolates at an international foods emporium nearby. A couple times a year I'll order chocolates from Maison du Chocolat, which is absolutely the best in the world. I fugre if I'm going to put on a few pounds over winter, at least they'll be high-quality pounds!

I was recently in Paris, (as I have been telling everyone I've ever met, talked to or posted) and the chocolate shops there were amazing! Proper chocolate, not the naff thorntons stuff which will do in a pinch. Made in the shop. Lovely it was, and not as full of sugar as the normal every day stuff you buy. Proper chocolate (I am such a food snob) should leave you feeling like you've just got down and dirty with your blokie (or girlie) and have enough natural caffine in it to keep you going for more.
