So...just a thought...don't know if anyone is interested, or if it could really work...but...

Would anyone be interested in starting a sort of online book club? We could fashion it any way that would be convenient for everyone. We could discuss favorite books, or favorite authors, or possibly someone could suggest a book for us all to read, and discuss plots and character or writing styles, whether we loved it or hated it and why, etc. Haik and Yael, how easy (or impossible) is it to get English language books where you are? Are you interested? Would it work?

Meh, just a thought...

Pretty easy to find English books in Israel. Newer ones might take a while to get here, but other than that, not a problem, I think. smiley - ok
What _is_ more of a problem is that I don't really get to read anything just because I want to read it, now. smiley - ermThere's always something else I should be doing.

So, I don't know. Wouldn't mind joining in now and then if something gets started, I guess, but don't know how much I can contribute.
smiley - ok

I like the idea but English books are kinda tough to find in this town and I don't really have the time...

Thanks, Chrono! I'll check them out. To be honest, I really don't have as much time for reading as I wished, too. I guess I'm just looking for something different than my usual choices to read. Maybe we can do something like this later. But in the meantime, I'd appreciate your suggestions! smiley - smiley

NuclearConfusion -Not a lot of money in the revenge business

Neuromancer is great smiley - ok, and I just started, but had to stop Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell; liked what I read a whole lot, though.

I tried this idea in the sewer complex, and thought the library would try the same thing. Both didn't work.

But I'm up for it.

...if we all find a book to read that we end up liking, we could even do an entry on it...

But yeah, I'm in.

Glad you like neuromancersmiley - smiley

Gibson did a whole series based on this concept.

The other titles are Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. They are both fantastic reads and expand the characters from Neuromancer in a really fascinating way.

If you have the time they are well worth the trouble to locatesmiley - biggrin

My favourite character is a mercenary from Count Zero who is paid to 'move' a young girl and then.................

smiley - ermWow. I have not read ANY of those books...

But if anybody wants to discuss Raymond Carver, I have this paper to write about the adaptation of his stories to the movie 'Short Cuts'...

It was on my list, too. I'm eventually reading all the books that have ever won a Hugo award for best SF novel. It won the 2005.

Some of the earlier ones are hard to track down, except at used bookstores, but most are worth the effort.

...this project, however, means I will eventually have to read one of the Harry Potter books. smiley - groan 2001 must have been a dull year for science fiction...
(No offence, Arthur C. Clarke!)

Currently reading "Forever Peace" by Joseph Haldeman (smiley - ok 1998 winner)

smiley - okCool. I just watched it today... smiley - ermwell yeah, I was _supposed_ to watch it before 'Film Adaptations of Short Stories' class yesterday, but whatever.
Anyway, kinda liked it, and the way it interweaves the stories together, but it's very much NOT Carver. The characters are pretty different.
Just the fact that Altman set it in LA is very not-Carver-like; I can't see any of his stories (those I've read anyway) taking place there.
*shrug* Not that it's necessarily bad, just... I don't know. Maybe because I read the stories first, and mostly liked them, it seems kinda like a miss.
