This is the result of a dare that requires me to do 15 pull ups in about 354 days.
I nerdily spent lots of time watching YouTube videos and reading articles by guys who, poor fellows, haven't got a shirt between them.
I'm still researching and practicing, and am open to all advice and guidance. I figure I'll put it in PR when I do my first pull-up. To prove I know what I'm talking about.

Actually, the only Pull-Ups I know are in fact nappies that are used for children learning to go to the toilet, they are easy to pull up and pull down; http://www.pull-ups.com
Chin-Ups are what I think the exercise you are attenpting to practice is more commonly referred to as

Nope. Just shows how not with the lingo you are. Chin ups your hands are supinated, for pull ups they're pronated.

I intend to restructure the entire entry as soon as I think I know what I'm talking about. It doesn't satisfy me as it stands, though 'supinated' is mentioned in the Lingo section. Really, Wilma, you can't tell a supinated grip from a pronated one? One is overhand and one is underhand - don't you understand? (And don't ask me which is which...)

Thank you all for joining me here a few months ago. This entry is being totally revised and submitted to PR. See you there.
Shoo - and take your nappies with you please.

I don't do diapers for my nieces and nephews, I'm certainly not handling any from your children. Nothing personal - just policy.

I couldn't help noticing the "lingo" problem. In the US military (and the school system), the exercise performed with palms facing one is called a Chin Up. when the palms face away, it is called a Pull Up.
Strange thing is, when you actually "Pull" something, like a rope, you have both palms facing each other! Now that IS strange!

PS: Videos available at Wikipedia that illustrate the difference.

Thanks Ford!
I added a mention or two of the difference so hopefully people won't get too confused. I know I was - I could do a chin up when I took the dare, but not a pull-up.
Anyway, now this is in PR.
