Mary Shelley is doing my head in, so I took a break and wrote this.

Nice one, Fizzy, as ever
One teeny weeny thing that always irks me, 'PIN numbers' should just be PINs

Nice Entry
The only comment I have is perhaps you might like to hunt down the lyrics and listen to the song 'Shoebox' by the Bare Naked Ladies. May be some more inspiration in there, or indeed a quote that could lift the Entry even more

If you don't get around to finding the lyrics, a shoebox is often used to store heartfelt keepsakes of lovers.

Great entry, as usual.
Don't know about the UK, but here, we refer to small, semi-detached houses as 'shoeboxes' in a pejorative way.
Not too sure about this:
This is particularly perilous in the event of a fire, flood or other catastrophe, but again the convenience of the shoe box to fit into a drawer, wardrobe or other closet appears to over-ride the obvious dangers.
What would be safer?

Thank you all for your comments, going to get onto the edits shortly - just finished breakfast and feeling
Got those lyrics Matt and will work something in.
Good point Magwitch.
Bel we have shoe box houses here too - I'll figure something out. What could be safer ..... a safe - or little strong box affair they sell in Lidls.
The reason I wrote this is yesterday --- I was looking through my document shoe box for a birth certificate.

I guessed that much - but how many people do you know who actually have a safe? Or the place for a safe?

Well there must be a few of them around, because they do sell them in Lidls and Woolies ... we considered buying one a few years ago for F-i-L who has a small shop. (We went with smellies instead.)

Well, I don't recall LIDL selling them here, or any other of this sort of shops for that matter, but if they're common in the UK, then I guess you're right.

Don't know if loads of people own them, but they aren't hard to find if you want to purchase one - I guess the point is they are less perishable than the shoe box - I'll work something in.

That's everything fixed .... except the shoe box houses Bel, can't find the right place for them at the moment - but that may become clearer over the next few days .... I haven't given up yet.

I've had this discussion in PR, but I feel the need to have it again.
"and is recycling at its best" Recycling is generally considered to be breaking something down and remaking the materials into something else. What we are doing with shoeboxes is 'reusing'.
The reason I like to make this distinction is because 'recycling' is the last of the three Rs. Reduce, reuse, recycle - recycling should be the last resort, not the first, because it's the least efficient, so I think our entries should reflect that as much as possible. Even if it is just a change of word.
Great entry though. I've got a shoebox as my 'stuff to do' box.

Eco Worrier for making you repeat yourself.
Still, I've removed it and hopefully that's it sorted.
Thank you for your kind words.

What a lovely article!
Now, there are some very organised people who store their shoes in their original box, but with a polaroid photo of the shoes stuck on to the front for ease of identification. My ambition is to one day be amongst their number...
Training as an accountant brings one into contact with many shoe-box accounts systems - typically a farmer who would arrive each year with a shoebox full of receipts, possibly a cheque book with some stubs filled in, and expect a neat set of accounts to materialise after a couple of hours work. A colleague told me how he once came across a love-letter in amongst the shoe-box-of-receipts of a bookies whose books he was doing. There's a lesson to us all there in the dangers of mixing your shoe-boxes, methinks!

Nice little entry, Fizzy!
I have nothing of note to add, except a little quirk of my friend's. She not only covers them with used wrapping paper, she also cuts a small square out of the end of the box and tapes clear plastic on the inside (she uses the plastic that her flowers come wrapped in ). Being a craftsy person, she stores her beads 'n' buttons 'n' bits in them. They sit on top of her kitchen units in a row... and very pretty they are too

Alternatively, you could quote Brie Larson's song 'Shoebox'... which says a little more than the Barenaked Ladies song:
And it's true
You must have been something special to me
'Cuz after all this time
I kept your picture in my shoebox
Just a thought...
