Nice to see you reviewing one of my all-time favourite films. It always amuses me that Powell and Pressburger meet their brief of strengthening Anglo-American ties by dragging up pretty well every dispute between the two nations in the previous couple of centuries! Mind you, the message is not as puzzling as that of 'A Canterbury Tale', whose main moral seems to be that it's okay to put glue in girls' hair if you think it's for a good reason...

Yeah, well, they seemed to have a funny idea of what a propaganda film should be - in Colonel Blimp, made right in the middle of the war, they declare that British military tradition has become worthless, and make the wisest and most sympathetic character a German officer...
