RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky Posted Feb 23, 2004
I basically agree with that. It's difficult to say at what point it ceases to mesh well though. Did the rendered sequences showing the submarine in Full Metal Panic mesh adequately with the rest of the art, for example, or was the stylistic break too obvious?
I'm not sure whether all of End of Evangelion can be 'definitely construed as reality', although it's certainly no monologue, and it does properly end the story insofar as it provides a sense of closure (as opposed to a sense of making sense).

I tend to like CGI, as all the animé I've seen with it has traditionally done it quite well. Blue Submarine Number 6 looked a bit starnge, but made up for it with a good story. Its use in Animatrix was simply brilliant, especailly for The Second Renaisance - you couldn't even tell it was CGI unless you watched the 'making of' movie!

The use of CGI in anime is a good thing, as long as it's blended in well enough.
It's too jarring to sit through when you just sit there and go "That's CGI. And that's CGI. Oh, and that, too."
It's got to be done right, otherwise it's a bit useless to use it, IMO.
