h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I for one am glad I live at this moment in time. I embrace technology because of how much easier it makes my life.

My son refuses to take any food, including milk. Because of the wonderful, easy to operate pump I have on loan, he receives his feed overnight whilst he (and I) sleep. Without the pump he would probably have been long-term hospitalised.

Because he is having problems I have become isolated in physical terms. However, I am never lonely. I can talk live to my mate in America, my family in Spain. I can write long letters and send them instantly (thus avoiding the letter waiting for several days because I am housebound with a sick child).

I can use my free airtime on the mobile to keep family informed when we are having a crisis.

I can read facinating and informative articles on h2g2!

I have on phone parties with my mates, catching up on their news and telling them mine.

I watch news, documentaries, history programs, soap operas and reality television whenever the mood takes me.

My son would have been dead without medical intervention and a stay in the very high tech special care unit.


However, I long for the day when I can once again go into the mountains and savour the peace and beauty all around me. I can't wait to go camping again, sleeping in a field close to a babbling brook. Waking to the sound of woodpigeons and the rustling of the trees.

It is my belief that in life as long as we strike a balance, technology has a positive affect on the world we live in. What we do with what is available to us is down to the individual.
