Absolutely, my friend. We each have our own head with a brain of our own inside. So sharing our own ideas should just be part of the fun.

Joe_Mickey (U648389) has registered with h2g2 specifically in order to say thanks for the large number of people who have followed links from h2g2 Friends of Tibet to his site, the Tibetan Photo Project,
http://www.tibetanphotoproject.com/
This suggests to me that h2g2 Friends itself is getting a lot more visitors than the number of posted comments might indicate. It also suggests that our visitors are keen enough to investigate at least some of the links.
So don't be discouraged by the apparent lack of activity. There's obviously a lot more activity taking place than is visible on the surface. On the other hand, there's no harm in taking a more active hand in spreading the word either.
If you haven't done so already, please do take a moment to have a shufti at the Tibetan Photo Project, which is quite remarkable, not least because it carries a letter of approval from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Cheers,
JTG

I have to agree with you about the Tibetan Photo Project,
http://www.tibetanphotoproject.com/
The photos are absolutely fantastic. It gives a very clear view of how wonderful Tibet and it's people are.
If you haven't yet, I do urge you to have a look.
Peace and Light

Joe mentions being inspired by 'Tears of Blood - A Cry for Tibet' by Mary Craig and by John Avedon's 'In Exile From the Land of Snows'. These are both wonderful books that I would also like to recommend.

Happy St Patrick's Day to all our friends at Tibet Support Group - Ireland.

Amen to that, JtG. Thanks indeed, even though, as I speak, I fume with irritation at our wretched Minister for Foreign Affairs, who, in his address to the UN CHR, did not even mention China, let alone Tibet. Grrrrrrrr. And there was our Taoiseach Bertie Ahern schmoozing GWBush with a bowl of shamrock in NY on St.P's Day.

I fume with you, brother. These politicians ought to take a bus tour of the real world, to see how different it is to the one constructed by their PR people.

Tibet has no strategic resources, China is huge. Why, they ask, should we bother with Tibet?
I hate that kind of thinking. How about 'because it's the right thing to do' ?

chaiwallah Posted Mar 19, 2004
Hi Gradient,
What exactly do you mean by "strategic resources?" You don't, by any chance, mean oil, gold, uranium, coal, or any of the other 126 industrially valuable minerals which China covets in Tibet? It's not for nothing that the Chinese name for Tibet is "Xizang Zhizou," which means "Western Treasure Basket." An estimated 40% of all "China's" mineral resources lie within Tibet.
The Tibetans were keen ly aware of the irony of the fact that both Gulf Wars were basically protecting the West's oil reserves. They watched disgusted as the West rushed to throw Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait, but now rush to help China exploit Tibet's resources.
Cheers,
Chaiwallah

Hi, Gradient. Take a look at Chai's Entry, 'Tibet - Why the Chinese are there' A2231344, which describes, among other things, some of the riches being plundered in Tibet.
You're absolutely right though: 'Because it's the right thing to do' should be a good enough reason for anyone.

Hello everybody! JTG, thanks for those links to Tibet interest in South Africa. I didn't get around to them last week, but I'll check them out now!

Both those societies ... the Tibet Society of SA ... and the SA friends of Tibet ... sound very interesting! I'll check them out some more online. At any rate I'll try to do what I can. In the midst of difficult personal circumstances I still think of the struggles of others around the world!

That's the spirit! Without wishing to intrude, I hope the difficult personal circumstances resolve themselves satisfactorily. As Grandad used to say, 'Keepyuhpeckuhrup'.

It's basicaly such a simple idea, but so powerful. The images themselves are wonderful. I'm sure that Joe (U648389) would appreciate your comments,

I've thought there ought to be an Entry about the Tibetan Photo Project. Perhaps Joe would be interested in collaborating on one.
