Well I'm confident we're not talking about Nigel.
I think Dempsters were the original name of what we call (In England) Wheely bins, not the household ones, but the commercial ones. The type of thing with a sliding lid, that a truck lifts in the air to empty.

No, I think that dumpsters were made by a firm called Dempsters, and that's how they got their name. (Then again I do think I read this in a novel, so it could be wrong)
