That's interesting, particularly as when a pope issue an offical papal instruction he is said to be speaking 'ex cathedra' and he must be obey, because popes are never wrong. Apparently.

Admitted, but one of the other bits revolved around a pope, so a vaguely relavant word for one question within this QI is close to a klaxon for another part.

Clues then.....
God Save the King. 'King' is important, as is the fact that it was first performed (clue!) in the middle of the 18th Century...
First to qualify was a Woman.....
Mid 19th Century.
All had been men until then!

Dr. "James" Barry First English woman to qualify as a doctor (she had to pretend to be a man to qualify)and served as a British army surgeon
Mid 19th Century. qualified in 1812.
The first registered woman doctor in England was Elizabeth Blackwell 1849.

(This woman I do have prior knowledge of. When it came up in print, I said to myself 'I know that one!' Clue? Her middle name is very uncommon as a female name!)

Elizabeth Garrett Anderson qualified in the USA she was English and the first to be a doctor but not the first to qualify in England

King Wenceslas was killed by his brother Boleslaw in 929 AD. He was staying with his brother at the time and appears to have been in his early twenties. Family gatherings, eh?
