Has the 'it's fictional' been covered? I mean, I know it wasn't on film, but in a song, a book, a poem maybe...
QI - "Run for your life!"
Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Posted Feb 15, 2010
Nope. (it's not been covered)
and
Nope. It's really real. Promise.

Woo! No Klaxon!
Unfortunately it also means there's no connection to my instant reaction on seeing the title line which was 'Ooh! A QI on Iron Maiden!'

Correct. No connection at all.

Pebbles DGI notwithstanding, I think the last truly relevant post was #27.

Did someone just accuse me of being an elephant? Oh, relevant, sorry.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Posted Feb 15, 2010
Well you were drawing attention to the runners and riders, I take it?
QI - "Run for your life!"
hygienicdispenser Posted Feb 15, 2010
I was indeed. Not that it really helped me any.
"Runners and riders"?

Horse racing metaphor - 'those taking part'
QI - "Run for your life!"
hygienicdispenser Posted Feb 15, 2010
I had a mental image of a bunch of murderers taking part in a piggy-back race.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Posted Feb 15, 2010
Hmm would you care to sum up what we know so far - that usually helps.
QI - "Run for your life!"
hygienicdispenser Posted Feb 15, 2010
Not a lot. 1923, San Quentin, 50 yard dash.
Competitors were prisoners and only prisoners, but we don't know anything more about them - which I guess is the next step.
Was it only one type of prisoner? Or maybe included someone famous? How many took part?
QI - "Run for your life!"
hygienicdispenser Posted Feb 15, 2010
Also, "events outside the prison" are relevant. I assume you meant the wider world, and not next door. I realise I know nothing at all about 1923. I am willing to concede that it existed, but I don't know of anything that happened then.

hygienicdispenser Posted Feb 15, 2010
Was there something about this particular race that had been going on for some years, which was put a stop to because of what happened in 1923?
Key: Complain about this post
