QI - Bridging The Gap

A rather unique suspension bridge was built in 1963 and is still in use today, though a few parts had to be replaced over the years.

It's a staggering 160 times as long as it is wide°, and its construction involved two architects, a structural engineer, and a contracting firm. But recycled materials were used, so it only cost the equivalent of 5000€ today (using the Consumer Price Index method) to build.

Where is the bridge, and who uses it?

°My best estimate from the data available, since exact dimensions are hard to come by.

Risking a negative score... 'twas for a model (or small scale) railway.

The professional involvement was (mainly) donated - so the costs were almost all for the materials or/and transport & cranage.

Where? South Wales, the Wye valley.

Who uses it? The enthusiasts, including the donors of course, run it to cover their costs plus a contingency fund.

?

Oooh, sorry, "model railway" was, indeed, a smiley - bluelight

Though maybe you can still get a QI out of it?

Phew!! smiley - whistle

I'll take my points and run thanks!! smiley - tongueout

Let some other brave sole take the flack!

I was just thinking about this 160 times longer than it is wide thing and trying to imagine the scale and (don't klaxon me) the only thing I could come up with was something that networked a bunch of islands or maybe some sort of path through a forest or across a valley maybe that something like ants or slightly larger liker...er ...sloths could amble across. So took a risk.

And was handsomely rewarded for it. smiley - biggrin

I can only imagine that it links an ancient migration route that is now cut off by a road. M25 maybe??

DGI +1 for the road - it does indeed span a road.

I'm guessing the species is endangered I meant they wouldn't build a bridge for cows.
