What about a scientific doctor adventuring in darkest Africa in the 19th century, says the wrong thing to a native, gets his bones and skin turned into a drum kit? Years later the kit ends up in the hands of, say, john bonham?

You keep saying that, and yet, I think you're missing the point.
Here, they're probably all mentioned in this Entry. A215993 Can we get on with something that's actually Quite Interesting now? I preferred trying to make connections with having "played a doctor" in other contexts...

Are we looking for someone who was in an episode of Doctor Who but playing the part of a normal Doctor, i.e. GP or surgeon?

Did one of the Doctor Whos play in an episode of Doctor Who as a doctor before they were cast as The Doctor?

Depends on what kind of professor you are...

The mad professor in Vision On wasn't Sylvester McCoy - it was a guy called David Cleveland, who runs (ran?) the film archive at the University of East Anglia.

To be fair, there's probably klaxons and QI points to be had in pointing out that by my reckoning either four or five of the actors who have played the character of the Doctor work under stage names, so if you're going down that route Peter Davison (no D) is wrong, but Peter Moffett is correct....

sylvester mccoy wasnt his real name either

he became sylveste mccoy when a program was printed "sylveste mccoy was played by sylveste mccoy" in a play an evening with sylveste mccoy and a journalist didnt get the joke
the name stuck and he later added the r when he worked out sylveste mccoy had 13 letters

Both Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee have acting sons who use the same surname as their Fathers, although that doesn't necessarily mean it's their real name as both Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen act using their father's stage surname rather than thier real names.
