h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

It appears that i cant see whther there are new posts anymore in alabaster. if i want to know i have to look in brunel. Is this just a fault on my PS, a fault across the h2g2, or is it that only people who use the brunel skin will get to see if they have new posts. hope not though.

About 25 minutes ago there was a blip in the system that made it think that people were logged out when they were really logged in. It was probably an overload of some sort, I would think. Anyhow, you briefly saw your converstaions list as it would be if you were logged out.

well the blip is still there, i cant see my new posts message thing, unless i switch to brunel, but it doesn't stick if i switch back

I'm not able to replicate your problem. It's working for me in Alabaster. What happens if you switch to Plain skin by editing the URL? Change the word 'alabaster' to 'plain'.

Same thing. The new posts line doesnt appear. I only get it when i look in brunel

My 'CONVERSATIONS' pop up box gives me the No. of posts e.g.
no grinching allowed!

Hi Alji. That's interesting. The only question left is why isn't it affecting me? I think, to borrow someone's words, it's a case of 'Don't Panic!', it's almost certainly a glich and not a design decision.

Could it be a frames issue? Suppose one group are using them and the others are not. That would make brunel work for both.

What about the frames theory? It doesn't seem likely to me since the conversations list isn't in a frame and Plain doesn't use frames but what the hey. Do you use frames? If you do use frames, does the problem go away if you switch to 'no frames' in the Preferences?

It appears we've been talking at cross purposes. I thought you were referring to the conversations popup whereas I suspect now you were referring to the conversations list on your page.

It appears to be something that happened around 4pm GMT. I don't suppose it will be fixed over the weekend but in the meantime I offer you the code for the Conversations Popup which remains unaffected.

Thats what i used to have on my PS under the consersations window. Ive put it in exactly as you put it but i get a link. Is there no way i can have it back on my PS without having the horrid brunel skin?

There is no way *I* can get it back on your personal space but I'm sure it will be fixed after the weekend. In the meantime, try the popup, which incidentally is available as a sidebar link on Brunel and Plain. It updates every two minutes all by itself so there are advantages.

Yeh i noticed that. Every few minutes theres a click and it refreshes, which worried me at first because i thought the pc was going haywire. Thanks for all your help amy

Someone definitely 'did something' at about 4pm because lots of things went haywire at the time.

Asmodai, it may be a caching problem.
Have you tried completely cleaning out your cache?
