I are quite confused. How do you start a conversation? I know there must be a way, but I have yet to discover it.

On the page you wish to start a conversation at, click discuss this entry or start a new conversation. It'll take you to a screen similar to post to a conversation and you can enter a subject line and the body that will appear in the conversation

! On h2g2 every article has a forum attached to it where people can discuss it. This allows up to build the guide collaboratively. If you came here looking for a chat room, 
but we currently don't have any chat facilities like other sites. We do however have <./>MiscChat</.> a page dedicate to chatting. We also have the rather large <./>Askh2g2</.> forum for asking all kinds of questions!

Actually you just did
.
You start a converstation by clicking on the "discuss this entry" button, fill in something on the form, ,click on "preview massage to see how your message will look, and if you like it, click on "Post Message".
The conversation will appear automatically on your personal space when someone posts to it with the "reply" button.
