Beer, cricket, moving home
Icy North Posted Aug 22, 2006
I haven't done much driving in the North of England, but it always seems to be on the traffic reports - usually the M62 (I think). You only have to look at a road map of West Yorkshire - there's more grey (built-up) areas than white spaces inbetween them. I've always tried to live close to railways where I can.
The worst place I've ever driven was Italy. There's a complete breakdown of the rules of the road there. Two-lane carriageways have three or even four lanes of traffic squeezed on to them. All junctions are completely blocked regardless of lights controlling them. People parallel park by ramming the car in front and the car behind them.

Now I know where the expression spaghetti junction originates from..
I'll sort something out down there (eventually!), it's just going to take time.
So how's life treating you in general Mr. North? Your personal involvement with h2g2 seems to have grown considerably since the last time I visited

Yes it has grown a bit. I thought I'd get involved with the peer review process. I've always browsed PR and commented on interesting ones, but now I've volunteered as a scout so I can do it with a little more authority. Every 4 weeks I'm expected to recommend 2 or 3 of them for publication. Fortunately the quality has been high, so there's plenty to pick. I've also written a few articles of my own, and I'll always try to keep one or two on the go. I'm not a natural writer, and it can take a lot of time. I can't just take something and rewrite it - I want things to be original.
In July I didn't go to the organised h2g2 London meet, but I did meet a few researchers the day before - Bel, MMF, Vicky Virago and Lil. All very nice people.
Work's lurching between frantically busy and deathly quiet, and I'm trying to avoid the next clear-out which is happening soon.

Okay, if I ever find out who gassed that poor FBI pony I'll slaughter them, I can't abide folk who are cruel to animals...

Change of plan, have to leave for the time-being, sorry to have diverted you from other duties just for me to get up and leave shortly afterwards, but that as they say is the way the cookie crumbles
I dearly miss being here, I miss all the funny conversations we used to have. Back to Bradford on Friday Icy, I'll definitely try to pop my head in afore I go. Take care and don't work too hard
my friend..

Oh I see it now, the spelling misled me! Band of Gypsys (my listing) Band of gypsies, your puzzle setting, mmm.....

Icy North Posted Aug 23, 2006
I'm guessing that might be a UK/US spelling thing. Wikipedia has "Gypsys", Amazon has "Gypsies". There's no title on the album cover, so I can't confirm from the Amazon picture.

Cooee....
Well the summer hols are over and I've packed the little darlings off back to scool to run with their own kind for a bit. Had a lovely summer, got to Eden, Heligan, a sponsored walk across the severn bridge and a few days camping in the lakes which I always love. Dragged the girls up a few mountains as they haven't rebelled yet.
Hope you have all been well, just catching up on all the threads and drinking too much !
