BeOS

The BeOS is a 'next-generation' multimedia operating system. This means that it doesn't work with your existing applications or hardware but it looks pretty.

It runs on Intel x86 and Motorola PPC architecture1. Faster and more versatile than Windows or MacOS, BeOS is rapidly gaining acceptance in the geek community thanks to its Unix-like operation and ease of use but, being a closed-source project, it cannot respond quickly to the daily improvements to Linux's user interface, and may yet find itself redundant.

Nevertheless, with successful marketing and hard work on the part of BeOS' developers, Be Incorporated, and the army of spare-time programmers who have flocked to support the platform, BeOS has the potential to be the Amiga of the 2000s.
